Coming from New Orleans I would normally be expected to drink my coffee with cream in it. But I started drinking coffee in college because I just wanted the caffeine. I hated the taste. And because I did not want to buy milk or wash my cup thoroughly every day, I just drank black coffee black and simply rinsed my cup. I also hated the 1980 powdered “whiteners” that were generally made available instead of milk or cream. It really had nothing to do with taste. I was just a lazy, cheap, college student who wanted to stay awake long enough to write a paper and then get up for an 8:00 am class.
