Nine years after Barack Obama accused small-towners of clinging to guns or religion, nearly three years after Jonathan Gruber was shown to have attributed ObamaCare’s passage to the stupidity of the American voter, and eight months after Hillary Clinton pronounced half of Donald Trump’s voters “irredeemable,” Democrats are now getting some sophisticated advice: You don’t win votes by showing contempt for voters.
In the last week or so a flurry of articles have appeared arguing for toning down the looking-down. In the New Republic Michael Tomasky writes under the heading “Elitism Is Liberalism’s Biggest Problem.” Over at the New York Times , Joan C. Williams weighs in with “The Dumb Politics of Elite Condescension.” Slate goes with a Q&A on “advice on how to talk to the white working class without insulting them.” Stanley Greenberg at the American Prospect writes on “The Democrats’ ‘Working-Class Problem,’ ” and Kevin Drum at Mother Jones asks for “Less Liberal Contempt, Please.”
None of these pieces are directed at Trump Nation. To the contrary, they are pitched to progressives still having a hard time coming to grips with The Donald’s victory last November. Much of what these authors write is sensible. But it can also be hilarious, particularly when the effort to explain ordinary Americans to progressive elites reads like a Margaret Mead entry on the exotic habits of the Samoans.
Mr. Tomasky, for example, informs progressives that middle Americans—wait for it—“go to church.” They have friends (“and sometimes even spouses”) “who are Republicans.” “They don’t feel self-conscious saluting the flag.” Who knew?

“Progressives” cannot stop working at ways to fool the voters.
It is in their very DNA. It defines who they are.
If they do not have to fool voters, they have no reason for existence.
Elites hate for the same reason muslims hate.
I worked around lots of lefties during my career. They were, by and large, elitists who had contempt for average people, especially conservatives. They have an air of intellectual and moral superiority that is dismissive of the “unwashed” and unsophisticated masses. They feel compelled to tell everyone else how to live.
Many were also closet racists.

Liberalism suffers from a principle rule of dog breeding. When you isolate a small gene pool too tightly, you end up with troublesome weaknesses. Variety from outside is necessary to maintain strength.
Since they do not have contact with the populace ‘out there’, they become a cartoon. Any tightly isolated group will suffer from the same condition.
They ain’t elite nuthin’.
They are still and will remain clueless and worse yet, they don’t want to understand.

Of all the liberals I’ve known and worked with, virtually none of them lived in, or even close to, minority communities. Liberals don’t really care about minorities; they just want their votes.
I know someone who’s brother works at Politico. He got married this past year and I was invited. There were ZERO black people at his wedding.
Interesting how liberals need this explained to them.

My Socialist sister felt quite entitled to tell me all about my parenting mistakes. I never commented on what I saw as hers. Now her situation/life is falling apart all around her and she says to me ‘don’t judge me, just love me’. But then, I am a Conservative.....I would never think of advising her in my beliefs. Libs are never wrong, in their minds, and they are totally insufferable. I take no joy in her mess of a life, but really would love to give her some advice. But no, she wants no advice from me. After all, I am in the wrong on just about every aspect of my beliefs. Never mind that my life is good.
Elites who come from inherited wealth, are afraid of the middle class. They know that they are not as smart as their ancestor who created the wealth they currently live off of, and are in fear of being supplanted by smarter people coming up from the middle class.
Liberal hate can only be fought, never placated or assuaged.

I remember reading Lenin quoted as saying “we shall hate or we shall fail”. Anyone else read that quote? I can’t remember where I read it.

Liberals see themselves as Plato's Guardians, with the people who would support a Trump or a Reagan as the benighted workers in Plato's cave, who need the Guardians to take care of them and direct their labors effectively.
Muslims see themselves as the Purifiers of the World, conquering the whole earth for Allah, then offering the conquered three options: convert, be enslaved, or die.
The one main thing liberals and Muslims have in common is a hatred of anything Judeo-Christian, and so they join forces against Judeo-Christian mores. But when the mores are gone, then the Muslims turn on the liberals, since while the liberals see themselves as worthy of Guardian status, the Muslims see the liberals as just another set of infidels to be converted, enslaved, or eradicated.
