I assume it’s a slurred low rent way of saying negro but since it was probably used by many racists in the past it has taken on a very large pejorative nature. If you use it you are instantly branded as racist and vile if you are white and will get you fired and numerous other bad things.

Sharpton lingers for a number of paragraphs over how the “N-word” has been used as a weapon to keep an entire race of people in subjugation. Yeah, they are called white people. We dare not say the word among people who are singing it. My sister in law was walked to the door of a large corporation for saying it one time regarding a type of nut.

My 87-year-old dad used to have a funny name for Brazil nuts.
He was just in the hospital for a broken femur. He kept the nurses in stitches. They were pretty confused, however, when he would thank them for some service by saying, "That's mighty white of you."
