Trump Fired A Corrupt VA Official. Then The VA Stepped In And Said Not So Fast
The Daily Caller ^ | 5/29/2017 | LUKE ROSIAK

A notoriously corrupt Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) manager fired in the first day of President Donald Trump’s presidency — to rousing acclaim from veterans who heralded it as a sign of lasting reform — has been returned to work by VA officials after he filed a civil-service protections appeal.

The return of the Puerto Rico hospital director is the latest example of Trump’s reform efforts encountering the entrenchment of what he has called Washington’s swamp, and comes in the same month a court ruled that the VA may not even be able to fire the Phoenix hospital director, who is a convicted felon as a result of job-related misconduct.

“On the morning of January 20, 2017, the Department removed DeWayne Hamlin, the director of the VA Caribbean Healthcare System, from the federal civil service. Mr. Hamlin subsequently appealed his removal to the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), and because of particulars in his case that remains under active litigation, he was brought back to work at VA,” spokesman James Hutton told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“As we have underscored since January 20, President Trump and Secretary [David] Shulkin have made employee accountability at VA a top priority, and we will continue to take appropriate disciplinary actions with our employees. The Secretary in this case was not able to overturn this decision once he was made aware of it. We need this ability in new legislation.”

You want warm. If you put them some place cold they have to have heat. If it is warm you just have to have shade. Midway would require water rationing food would be expensive and housing would have to be imported as there is literally nothing there but a runway.

The Aleutians are also less remote and easier to see family and friends.

They also have scenery.

I want a location where they have nothing to look at except the ocean. No where to go except to bed and no cultural or normal leftist type activities. Make them home school their kids in the middle of nowhere.

There are no bears on Midway and other than typhoons it is not a dangerous place but it is very, very remote.

Doesn’t NYC have a special place where teachers that can’t be fired go every day and just sit around doing nothing while drawing their checks and benefits? I think there are hundreds of teachers like this.

I have had mixed results dealing with the VA. They came to my bedside in a Civilian Hospital ( a really ‘noted’ Hospital). I was heading over to hospice as my last alternative. They literally saved my sorry hide. Since that time they have gone way out of their way to deride me at every turn. It’s the damndest thing I have ever witnessed. Yes, the entire org needs to be abolished. Like ALL of our Institutions, they have been thoroughly corrupted.

Every new VA administrator over the last 40 years goes into the job thinking they can change it. They find out that the whole system is stacked against them. Between the unions and the ingrained bureaucracy it’s become a permanent monument to what’s wrong with the Federal Government.

I agree that they need to tear it down and start over.

I lived in Saudi Arabia for a bit in the nineties.
That is why I want them someplace cold.
They would never acclimate to the cold.
And no, they dont have to have heat, insulate the building well and pack them close together. If you ever do decide on heating, 55 degrees is all you ever need.

Visitors? That’s what the coast guard is there to prevent.

I would choose Semisopochnoi in the Rat group. Its pretty lifeless, and if the there were a volcanic eruption well, too bad those things happen.

There is a bloodless civil war already under way. Liberals and conservatives hate each other. It’s becoming impossible to “coexist”. I wish papers could be drawn up giving us independence from liberals and their destructive laws.

The bloodless part is just the beginning stage. There aren’t bloodless revolutions.

There are thousands of years of recorded history. You might try studying any part of it thoroughly. Then you won’t make foolish statements postulating the long disproved concept of a bloodless revolution.

If you want to continue advancing that silly fallacy, get Seth Rich and Chris Stevens on here to help explane how that might happen.

the problem with term limits is that it gives the bureaucracies [and the lobbyists] the upper hand since they know that the overseers will be gone soon.
The problem without term limits is that journalists and lobbyists can buy legislators who will stay bought. And make no mistake, journalists buy journalists with positive - and the threat of negative - PR. Happens continually.

“Can’t fire him? Put him out to VA pasture.”

Move his desk to a closet under a stairwell. Or let him share a basement storage bin with Milton Waddams.

When I worked for government I frequently heard the meme that government employees “own their jobs”. Not sure what that means, but it sounds like it might be true to some extent.

You don’t have to control every single government employee.

You just need to control the pay computer.

“I’m sorry. There appears to be a computer glitch with your pay. We think we might possibly be able to fix it in six years.”

Turnabout is fair play.
