Move our military bases to Poland. The former east Prussian area would do well.
My wife has a friend who is from Poland. The elder lady can speak 7 languages, and speak them well. She says a lot of the Germans are the most arrogant assholes you would ever want to meet. Says the German national anthem is proof.
She leaves in a few weeks to go back to Poland to visit her kids.
Europe can no longer play us for a fool and take our money without giving back. Tough tooties.
Trump should just withdraw from NATO and make it official.

The USA has been unable to rely upon Germany and Europe for many years. As President Trump recognizes, it has been all one-way support for far too long.
Anyway, all the drama-queen nonsense from people like David Frump is just ridiculous. NATO goes on, the USA and Europe will work together on many issues as appropriate. There is no great permanent divide, just a recognition of current realities.
Germany is more likely to disarm completely than to get nuclear weapons.
What? What? VE Day was May 8th 1945. The United States was AT WAR WITH THE GERMANS UP UNTIL THAT DAY. We didn't have an 'alliance' with them... we defeated the jerks.

In 1944 we defeated the Germans, and then we paid them. Sent them all kinds of foreign aid. Now they balk at spending 2% of their GDP on their own defense.

"Going it alone" is going to take a lot more than 2%. Or you can just bow down to the Russians, take a page from Obama's book. Good luck if you think they are going to be easier on you than the US. Russia, lost 25 million people in WWII, and it is seared into their national consciousness. I have been there. The line of maximum advance of the German army has a military monument: a tank, an artillery piece, some reminder of the "Great Patriotic War" about every mile along it. You will just love life under your new Russian masters.
