Dear NSA,
Hi, it’s me again. Although I left the agency a few years ago, I still think about you a lot, and in recent months — thanks to that awful Ed guy — I’ve been writing and talking about you a good deal in public. Plus, because on my very first day on the job I agreed to that whole lifetime secrecy oath thing, we’re separated but we’re never going to really get divorced, are we?
Nevertheless, there are some things I’d like to get off my chest. My comments in the media in defense of intelligence, generally if not always specifically, have led to me getting a lot of flak from haters about being a "shill" for the NSA and whatnot. Of course, that’s not true. There are things that need change at the agency, and the unprecedented catastrophe of the Snowden case offers an overdue chance to start making smart changes in how the NSA does business. I’d like to suggest a few.

Shindler, as the FP article this thread is based upon shows, is likely still an intelligence asset. That he is the national security analyst for Kushner newspaper really says something. And that he’s going after Kushner now says more.

Article dates from 2013. Schindler’s “open letter” reads almost like satire, so its authenticity should be questioned. Additionally, his employment at the Naval War College RI thankfully ended in 2014. Anyone reading this thread would probably assume he was still there. I did, until I stopped to check it out. Lots of misleading stuff here, not sure where the value of it resides.
He’s featured regularly on conservative talker Hugh Hewitt’s popular radio show, and his blog posts are often cited in top Republican consultant Rick Wilson’s commentary.
Claude Barfield, a resident scholar at AEI, points to Schindler in his writings on international trade and technology policy."

Interesting. I see they also just named to their board this month Jack Markell, the former governor of Delaware former head of the Democrat Governors Assoc. and National Governors Assoc., who some thought/think would be running for president.
They also did the odd thing of selling Kaplan, with $600M in revenue, for one dollar to Purdue, along with a long-term contract to operate the 38 campuses for them. (Gets them out of the slam for being “for profit”, while still being for profit, I guess.)
