Bear charges hunter in Canada backcountry
The Weather Network ^ | May 24, 2017 | Richard Wesley

A hunter in Northern Ontario, Canada got the scare of his life, and on his birthday no less, when a black bear charged and knocked him over on May 17, 2017.

The man is a seasoned archery hunter and at the time was hunting on his land in Hearst, Ontario, Canada.

The man stated to The Weather Network: ‘It is a true learning experience as to how unpredictable our wild black bears can be. I decided to share with everyone to show people on how fast a bear can charge attack an individual.’

The bear was not injured and the hunter was nursing an elbow and ego bruise.

How much did he charge him, and did he take credit cards?

“He really needed a gun and been prepared to shoot the bear.”

No, he really needed a knife. Guns are for sissies. FReepers kill bears with knives. ;)

....The man is a seasoned archery hunter...

Who screwed up big time. Happens to the best of us. Fight or flight instinct reaction? The bear just ran off?

A relative here in Alaska surprised a big grizz. He was bow hunting, made the shot but didn’t go back until the next day to see if he was dead. He said he ran like the devil after releasing the arrow. The bear was hit dead-on in the heart.

As Mrs. Hugin’s dad used to say, “Some days you get the bear, some days the bear gets you”.

About a month ago I channel surfed through one of the outdoor sports channels and saw an amazing film of a wounded male lion charge one of its hunters across about 100 yards of open field.

The lion’s speed (maybe 4 seconds to cover 100 yards), its incredible size, its aggression, and its aura of maniacal violence are really beyond description.

The hunter killed it with one shot, maybe 10 yards away, and the dead lion bounced and rolled almost the rest of the way up to the hunter.

Very easy to understand why lions are called the king of beasts.

He was a seasoned hunter so the bear just wanted to see if he was properly seasoned.

Not you again in this incident, I hope! lol

Looks like another big bear year out here in B.C. A grizzly and her cubs moseyed through downtown Meadow Creek recently.

Bears are always much faster than you’d think. Especially uphill!

Cheers!

Yep. He survived and learned a valuable lesson.
He’ll be better prepared next time he goes out.
