Senator Rand Paul is promising to file a resolution of disapproval to block an arms deal with Saudi Arabia as soon as the administration formally notifies congress, Senate sources tell Big League Politics.

On Friday, it was reported that Trump is planning to announce the arms deal during his trip to the nation over the weekend. The terms have not been officially announced, and value ranges from being reported as $100 billion to as much as $300 billion.

The action by the Kentucky senator will force a congressional vote on the executive action. He will reportedly be citing the war in Yemen, terror funding, and the nation’s human rights abuses among the reasons to block this deal.

What Rand and many people here don’t seem to understand is that you cannot have a viable arms industry without foreign sales. It’s the nature of the business. Once your own armed forces have acquired what they need, in order to keep the factories open you need to sell them to somebody else. And you need to keep the factories open in order to have replacements if you lose a bunch in a war. And we don’t have many customers with the money to buy that much hardware who are strategic allies, at least as far a Iran is concerned.

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, argued that by selling tanks and other military equipment to Saudi Arabia the US is essentially joining the war in Yemen without congressional authorization.

Someone let this dumbass know we've been selling hardware to the Saudis for a long, long time.

It sounded like we are selling them our modern technology.

I’m with Rand Paul on this. We need to stay out of the Middle East. The 9/11 hijackers were Saudi. We kept the extent of Saudi involvement in 9/11 classified. The Saudis continue to fund Wahhabi camps in our country.

the terrorists are a tiny handful of amateurs - they pose little or no threat to America

secure the borders and stop chasing foreign monsters

Google Saudi air force and just look at how many aircraft they have purchased from the US and the UK.

They have more UK made aircraft than the UK air force.

They also have many versions of Boeing transport aircraft.

And selling them weapons goes back to just after WWII.

Rand Paul is on another of his trips over the edge.

AND, much of the weapons purchase is naval stuff that will drastically cut down on piracy in the Gulf AND provide a clear buffer to Iran in the Gulf.

For those who are really interested in what Rand Paul says, he penned this piece at Rare.US about 6 weeks ago so I knew this was how he thought.

We’ll get someone peeved at us; and yes, the Houthis are supplied by Iran and perhaps others.

At times, I disagree with Rand but I admire him in that he seems to stand up for principle, albeit, they may be his principles.

Yemen’s been in a civil war for 2 years. A UN coalition of arab states have instituted a port blockade and have been bombing them in support of the regime recognized by the UN. AlQ and IS are trying to capitalize on the violence, backed by Iran, and are now occupying about a third of the country. The rebel Houti regularly run raids across the border into Saudi and a few hours after Trump arrived in Saudi, lobbed another rocket, hitting about 200 miles from the Saudi capital. There’s a money and war created famine happening; the World Food Programme claims not to have enough money to feed 7 million people although billions have been either spent or pledged. Of course, the civil war has destroyed wells and agriculture. It’s a Syria-type mess in the making with the UN messing about as usual.
