10 of the Fastest Cars You Can Buy for Under $100,000
Cheatsheet ^ | 9 May, 2017 | Micah Wright

We’ve had enough of these ludicrous luxury car sticker prices. It seems like every supercar carries a six figure price tag, leaving the fastest cars on the market completely out of reach for all but the ultra-wealthy. Seriously, if you had $250K, what would you rather buy, a massive house or a car?

It isn’t just because these cars are extremely expensive to engineer and manufacture, but because prestige always comes at a premium, a phrase the über elite love to recite when shopping for that fresh Ferrari. Fortunately, there are still quite a few cars out there that can be had for under six figures. Horsepower is getting cheaper by the year, and that means that 200 miles per hour and sub-four second zero to 60 times are more attainable than ever before.

For those of you who are looking for speed and power for less than a hundred grand, the following vehicles are for you. Naturally, there are quite a few other automobiles out there that qualify, but for the sake of time and space we’ve kept our list to the following ten contenders.

10. Lexus LC 500 9. BMW M2 8. Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG S . . . 2. Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat 1. Corvette Z06

I think the Ford Mustang Shelby 350GT is a big omission. And others? My Audi S6 will do 0-60 in 3.7 seconds.

Just not in the market for a car that’s worth more than my domicile.

Not in Colorado. I live way outside Denver in a private pocket in the Roosevelt National Forest and the small house next to me just sold for over $300K. Colorado is having a serious housing bubble.

I drive an early 2000s Ram Truck, that’s all manual

If I need speed I’ll get a bike.

I live in the Midwest. What vintage “massive house”?

Sure can’t build a new “massive house” for 250k.

Shoulda replaced the Hellcats with Mustang 350.

Hellcats are notorious for blowing up due to their inability to handle over rev and pressure for more than 10 seconds...

Other sources have slightly different lists. And some of the cars on all the lists can’t really be had for $100k, though the “base price” may be under that.

I was just reading about the Meyers Manx dune buggy, and Bruce Meyers' newest iteration, the Manxter, with a Subaru STI turbo crate engine is capable of sub-four second 0-60. Pretty cool looking, too. There are a couple of places that do turnkey builds, one in Cape Cod and one in SoCal that I'm aware, or you can build it yourself the old school dune buggy way by ordering the fiberglass components from Meyers Manx. Turnkey appears to be from around $35K on up depending upon how fancy you get.

Pretty cool old guy, Bruce Meyers. He's 90 now and still driving his creations all over the country to events to promote the preservation of vintage Manx as well as his new buggies. I met him in 2014 on the OBX of NC, annual event, "Manx On The Banx." Here's a Jay Leno's Garage episode featuring the very first fiberglass dune buggy ever made, a Meyers Manx, he invented them pretty much:

Those externally mounted tanks are from a Baja competition he entered way back, they were for extra fuel.
