On April 27, baseball fans around the country honor one of baseballs all-time greatest players. Its National Babe Ruth Day.
George Herman Babe Ruth, Jr., born on February 6, 1895, in Baltimore, Maryland was nicknamed the Bambino and the Sultan of Swat. Spending 22 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), he played for three teams from 1914 to 1935.
Babe Ruths baseball career started as a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. He became a full-time right-fielder when the New York Yankees bought his contract in 1919. Being one of the leagues most prolific hitters, he helped the Yankees win seven pennants and four World Series titles.

I once read that no one, including Hank Aaron, hit as many homers as a percentage of times at bat. It wasn’t even close.
Yep he’s one of the all time greats.
In some of his big years, Babe hit more home runs than some other entire teams, from what I heard.
This helps create debates among baseball fans, which go endlessly. We know that Barry Bonds and Hank Aaron hit more homers than the Babe. But Babe probably had a bigger impact on the game than either of these others. Based on the numbers, only these three hit over 700 home runs, with Alex Rodriguez not quite getting there as he finished his career with 696.
Then people bring up how Babe played only day games, whereas players nowadays have to cope with coast to coast travel across times zones, day games following overnight travel or night games, facing specialized relief pitchers, etc. which the Babe never confronted.
I also found out he wasn’t really a sultan!
Baby Ruth is not named after Babe Ruth. It is named after the daughter of a President— I think maybe Cleveland or Coolidge?
The Red Sox will be celebrating tonight by beating the Yankees. I will catch as much of the game as I can while watching the draft and checking out a new music venue tonight. And seeing a Led Zeppelin tribute band called Get The Led Out.

(Bambino quotes)
Probably his most famous,”What the hell has Hoover got to do with it (his contract being bigger than the Presidents)? Besides, I had a better year than he did.”
If we celebrate it like the Babe did, how many years will it take off our lives?
He singlehandedly saved baseball, coming out of the Black Sox scandal.

Excellent. I would like to add my two farthings - Aaron had many more at bats (12,364) than the Bambino did, (Ruth 8,399) and many of Ruth’s homers came as he was pitching during those early seasons...
Babe Ruth’s secret was lots of beer, cigars, women and not working out too much.
#5 Alex Rodriguez not quite getting there as he finished his career with 696.
He has easily surpassed the others in girlfriends....
Gotta get the good ones!
Still funny after all these years!...............
