Early Reactions To Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Screening Are In! And The Verdict Is…
Latino Review Online ^ | Apr.19.2017 | – by Joseph Medina

We’re almost there, folks. In just a few short weeks, we will be experiencing the very next film in what we now know will be the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.

The trailers for the upcoming Marvel Studios flick have been off-the-charts amazing, and if you were a fan of that ridiculous, goofy humor of that first one, this film looks to have that in spades.

But can Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 live up to the promise of the first film? Most importantly, does it continue the proud tradition of solid films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Screenings have been going on all around the web, and while no one has been able to post a full-on review, they have been able to share their initial impressions via social media.

Let’s start with our very own Nancy Tapia, who had a chance to check the flick out last night (also keep an eye out in the future for our interview with actress Zoe Saldana): Of course, she wasn't the only one who's had a chance to check out the film.

Some of the film journalist notables have also seen the flick. So on the whole, it sounds like impressions of the film are generally positive.

Sure, certain critics may feel like it’s a step down from the first one, and maybe a tad uninspired and repetitive, but when all said and done, it sounds like Marvel and Guardians fans are likely in for a great time at the theaters.

With Ego, the Living Planet, it better be a good movie.

I remember reading Thor #132 when I was 13 and saw the incredible illustration by Jack “King” Kirby. It blew my mind.

Before I even bother to read an article about a movie I haven’t seen yet, I have to say that I don’t care what they think. I will see it and enjoy it regardless. Also, there are probably spoilers in there and I don’t need that either. Ain’t nobody got time for that. The writer probably never heard of the Guardians of the Galaxy before the first volume came out. It’s all click bait right now.

So they're saying it's a sequel.

I watched Suicide Squad for the first time last night, When it was over i was thinking what a waste of 2 hours.
DC must be pretty jealous of Marvel these days...

Yeah, I thought the same. I kept wondering when it would get good, then it ended.

DC has an incredible string of mediocre movies. The Dark Knight was terrific, but only for Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker. I can’t imagine Justice League being any better. I suspect Wonder Woman will do well, but I’ll wait to see it on TV.

“DC must be pretty jealous of Marvel these days...”

I’m far from a comic expert ... I only enjoyed a couple of the big comic adaptations (the newer Batmans, Iron Man, the older Superman I & II). Outside of those, I tend to tune out if any other comic film is on TV. I really wanted to like the XMen films since Rebecca Romaijn and Jennifer Lawrence run around in blue body pain, but even knowing that, I tend to fall asleep.

The thing that strikes me about DC characters that these idiots keep screwing up is that DC characters are rather wholesome (for the most part). The writers want to make them “dark and conflicted” since they’re stuck in that mindset that all comic movies have to adhere to that formula or they won’t sell.

Let’s look at three of their characters.

Superman is a flying boy scout fighting for truth, justice, and the American way.

Wonder Woman is a beautiful, well endowed ( ;-) ) lady also fighting for the USA.

Batman is the darkest of the characters (that’s probably why he works in the films so well ... you expect a vigilante to be that way). He’s mainly in it for the citizens of Gotham.

Look at what the idiots in Hollywood do to the first two ... in recent times, they make Superman a neutral, conflicted alien. I don’t want to see that ... it doesn’t work for that character. It makes him a total bore. Superman is best when he kicks evil doer’s asses in the name of the USA :-).

Wonder Woman ... same thing. They keep her background story, but overhaul her character to make her more morally ambiguous for lack of better terms.

Only Batman works as a dark, mysterious character.

I understand that they need to cater to a world market now ... maybe they need writers that are talented AND not ashamed of the United States of America ... that might help them make quality DC movies and help right their ship. The DC comic IP isn’t bad at all ... it’s simply in the hands of idiots for the most part.

IIRC, the first Superman of the late 70s is still one of the highest grossing comic films of all time (accounting for inflation) ... I have no idea why they want to muck with a known working formula.

Give it extra half star (at least) if it has Kurt Russell in it. The guy who gave us Snake Plissken/Jack Burton/Mac MacReady always brings it to the table. Book it.

Joker and Harley outshone the film. The rest of the characters were somewhat wooden and formulaic.
