About.
Abdus-Salaam took her first husband’s surname, and retained it during her professional career. Her second husband, James Hatcher, was the son of Andrew Hatcher, who worked as a press officer for John F. Kennedy. Her third husband, Gregory A. Jacobs, whom she married in June 2016, was an Episcopal priest within the Episcopal Diocese of Newark.
Abdus-Salaam lost two family members to suicide, her mother in 2012 and her brother two years later. Both occurred around the Easter holiday.
While it was widely reported that she was the first Muslim to be a member of the New York Court of Appeals, she never converted to Islam. Rather, she merely took her first husband’s Islamic surname, according to Court of Appeals spokesman Gary Spencer. The claim that she was a Muslim is believed to have originated in a press release by New York state senator Kevin Parker following her nomination in 2013.

“Judge Abdus-Salaam had been reported missing by her husband the day before she was found dead”
She had left her phone, pocketbook, car keys, etc. in her apartment, which is typical of a suicide. They found her body in shallow water and she had some slight bruising in the throat area, although not enough to strangle her. But this is why they are reopening the investigation.
I was thinking, “Scalia!”, too. Apparently the death of a low-level, minority, possibly Muslim, judge is worthy of an investigation. The suspicious death of a conservative SCOTUS... not so much.
Makes sense Did she jog? Walk with friends?
But Scalia’s death was normal....
Any controversial rulings? I keep saying its just a matter of time for some of these judges.
Oh, actually, moreso Walter Scheib - He was a Clinton chef at the white house. He was found ‘submerged in a mountain drainage flowing with surface runoff.’
He supposedly ‘drowned on a hike’ in New Mexico.
Even though you provided me with rock solid facts, I am still sticking to my trope of “Well, at least there is now an opening for a real American to fill”.
I consider leftists to be fake Americans. We do not need them.
I wasn't aware Sherlock Holmes was a member of the NYPD.
If we're investigating mysterious deaths among the judiciary, why not start with Scalia?
If only she a Supreme Court Judge who was found smothered and with a pillow over her face would her case lack any interest.
Video Clue Emerges in Death of One of State's Top Judges By Dean Meminger Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 12:01 PM EDT
NEW YORK - A new clue has emerged in the investigation of the death of a top state judge found floating in the Hudson River, NY1 has learned.
Police have located surveillance video that shows Court of Appeals Judge Sheila Abdus-Salaam in Harlem walking alone, toward the water, at about 8:30 p.m. on April 11, NY1s Dean Meminger reports.
She was wearing the same clothes as when her body was found near W. 131st St. at 1:45 p.m. the following day.
The clue supports suggestions that Abdus-Salaam took her own life and was not the victim of foul play. There were no signs of trauma on her body when she was discovered.
However, police are still classifying the death as suspicious, because they say they still do not know for sure if this was a suicide or if someone killed her. The Medical Examiner is working with the NYPD to deteremine a cause of death.
Abdus-Salaam disappeared on the morning of April 11. Police say she made a call to her assistant saying she would not be coming into work that day.
The NYPD took to Twitter on Tuesday asking anyone who had contact with Sheila Abdus-Salaam in the days before her death to reach out to detectives.
In 2013, Abdus-Salaam was appointed to the state's Court of Appeals by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
She was the first African-American woman to serve on the state's highest court.
I think you nailed it.
