Can anyone recommend a good anti virus program?

Posted on 04/08/2017 5:36:57 AM PDT by stuck_in_new_orleans

My Kaspersky AV subscription has expired and I wasn't very happy with their service. It seems to not play well with either my PC or Windows 10. Any good program suggestions?

Eset's Nod32. I have been using on 5 computers for over 10 years. They have several versions, pick the one you need

Sadly, identifying the worst infections while in Windows is not possible.

Rootkits need to be eliminated with rescue CD/DVDs, in which you boot with Linux or another OS and scan your original hard drive.

Until then, you think you are not infected, but you are.

I use Immunet (ClamAV) with an occasional manual scan by MalwareBytes.

I do occasional image backups using acronis. Restore from old image when computer starts acting bad. More frequent film backups are also needed for this scheme.

"If you’re using Windows 10 DO NOT INSTALL ANTIVIRUS!"

I second that. I've used Windows standard stuff for more than a decade, and never have had a problem with it.

Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop. I know, it’s a snarky answer, but it’s the best solution if you’re not wedded to a windows-only app.

I’m on Avira again. The company also uses Avira. It annoys me the least.

I’ve used Norton also and never had a problem. It now offers ID theft protection too.

Norton IS a virus. Ever try to get rid of it? Memory hog too.

Try commodo, it’s free and never failed me. My IT guys suggest a multi tiered defense, so malware is also recommended

I use Avast (free version) on a number of PCs, and standard Windows Defender / Security Essentials on others. Avast is guilty of “feature creep”, as they keep adding more and more crap (overhead) to the program, in many instances duplicating features that exist in CCleaner. As I move PC’s over to Win10, I’m just letting the built-in Microsoft stuff do its thing, and then run the occasional sweep with Malwarebytes and CCleaner.

Linux. I have used it since 2008 on many computers and have never gotten a virus. Quite a change from Windows.
