Firearm choice - Requesting input

It's Spring and time to get a new lightweight semi-auto pistol for carry!

I need to get a new carry gun for Summertime! Currently I carry a Para-Ordanance P-12 .45....It's lightweight, high capacity and fairly small....Great for winter carry but not so much for summer in Atlanta....looking for a summer gun.... Caliber no smaller than 9mm and preferably with a hammer but I'm open to stricker weapons....

There are a lot of new small, flat semi-auto's out there from the Taurus to Sig...

Corrosion resistance is a plus since the weapon will be up against my body on hot sweaty days.....

Every weapon has pro's and con's plus feel in my hand may be diferent than others but I'd like to narrow the list to the top 3...

If John Browning didn’t invent it, it probably didn’t need inventing.

I’m a revolver guy. But if I were looking for a semi auto for cc in casual warm weather dress, I’d probably go with an S&W M&P 9C.

Are you looking for a pocket pistol?

I’m partial to my S&W M&P Shield 9. Very comfortable for carry against my middle.

Check out the Ruger American pistols. They have compact sizes available, and they’re not terribly expensive. Made in ‘Murica.

A second vote for the shield. I have CZs, but the shield is extremely attractive...use upc 022188867435 for the night sights and 3 mags, under $400, choice of safety, caliber. Check gunbuyer, gunbroker, and slickguns for best prices.

Start by remembering the 5 rules of a gun fight:

1) gun beats no gun
- so the hand cannon that you left home because it is to heavy, prints, to expensive to shoot, etc = no gun
- the semi-auto that jams because you didn’t feed it the right ammunition or is so complex to operate under stress that you can’t clear the jam = no gun

2) a hit beats a miss
The .22 that hits is worth a whole lot more than the .50 AE that misses.

3) fast beats slow
Not talking about bullet speed, talking about getting the gun into the fight. He who shoots first often forces the other to take cover

4) big holes beat small holes
Given the above 3 rules, carry the biggest hole maker that you can. Hollow points are better than FMJ

5) two holes beat one hole
If it is worth shooting once, it is worth shooting twice

Lots of bad guys have been stopped with the .32 ACP and the .380. If that is what you will carry consistently and is what you can shoot accurately for both the first and follow on shot.... carry that.

I am of the opinion that far too many carry far too much gun. I have trained MPs and SWAT teams in the military. There is one additional thing to consider - PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. So get a gun that you can afford the ammunition - or learn to reload

Oh! That’s a beauty. I’d take it in a 40 if it floats. You know the rotten luck we freepers have with guns and boats.#sadface

Kahr CM9. DAO, striker, but the trigger pull was designed to mimic the S&W K frame DA trigger pull, and it does.

9mm, pocket size, and as light as anything that size in 9mm. SS slide.

Street price $300.

I carry the Zimmerman special, Keltec PF9. I’m pretty sure it’s the lightest 9mm available and holds 7+1. Ammo is cheap and ubiquitous - no excuse not to become proficient with it, and loaded with good self-defense ammo, it’ll punch well above its weight.

Remember, the best gun is the one you have on you, and IMHO every ounce off your gun is one less excuse not to carry it.

A CCW buddy at work picked up an H&K P30SK last month. I went and checked one out, and will be getting my own soon. Very well balanced with a low profile.
