Vanity...Just saw shot of White House, there are 8 S. S. guards on roof. Why are they in Black? They stand out as targets. Don't they have white (Winter) camo???

I agree uniforms send a message.
Black targets on a white roof do not send the same message as glimpses of serious snipers.
I remember when the 20th hijacker was being tried at the Alexandria EDVA Federal courthouse there were military type men in black outfits with their pant legs tucked into their boots around. The rumor was that there was some type of air defense on top of the courthouse for the occasion.

I noticed when Obama was president, video of the White House at night always had the roof brightly lit, with the guards walking around dressed in black. This made no sense to me, since the guards would be blinded by the lights and would be nothing but targets. After January 20, the roof lights at night have been off.
They should be wearing “I’m With Stupid” pointing up t shirts.l

I’m no expert, but taking a sniper shot at them would be difficult if not impossible since the sniper nest would be very far off due the nature of how DC is set up...
And they go by names like "J" and "K". Head guy is "Z", right?
Dude, these guys shot to death a woman who made a u-turn in the white house driveway and even prior, allowed several fence climbers to roam around.
There’s still a bunch of nut jobs getting on property, you would think the SS would figure out the first 2 months - 1 year are the most hazardous.
Lastly, an agent just left a laptop with sensitive information on it. Hearsay say’s it was strapped to the back of her motorcycle.
So no. I don’t think they tried matching the ninja costumes of the SS to the color of the white house background.

To the majority of people, guys in black uniforms with masks and body armor look intimidating. The agents you do see are meant as a deterrent as much as anything else. Pretty basic and obvious. I was living on a military base during 9/11. Before 9/11, the gate was guarded by one guy, often in service uniform and never with a visible weapon. Starting the day after 9/11, the gate was guarded by half a dozen sailors in camo with M4's and shotguns. Which do you suppose was a more effective deterrent?
They want you to know that they’re there - you don’t see the people you’d have to worry about if you had bad intentions.
