As March draws to a close, Netflix has again followed its monthly tradition of announcing what will videos be coming to and leaving its streaming service in the following month. Subscribers typically read these announcements with a mix of trepidation and joy, looking to see which films and shows they should race to watch before they disappear while also looking forward to the new content that will soon be available.
But the reaction to this months announcement was a little more rambunctious than usual, driven by dismay that several beloved television shows that have long been a part of Netflixs library, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The X-Files, would be leaving the stable.
Some of this reaction is specific to those shows. Buffy and The X-Files (along with Twin Peaks and the first eight or so seasons of The Simpsons) are in many ways the shows that created modern television. Beyond that, for many people, these are the shows that launched the binge watching trend that has almost become the default mode of television watching.

I got rid of Netflix during the boycott due to White People new show coming out in April. I have not missed it a bit. I still have cable, Hulu and Amazon Prime so I am more the able to watch something.
I really did enjoy House of Cards with Kevin Spacey. But I will have to watch it a different way since I ditched Netflix. I might buy it on Amazon Prime when it shows up or I-Tunes. This is the first year I am not chomping at the bit to watch it. I think it has to do with last season being so weak and a bit boring. I really don’t like the Claire character at all and they focused on her a lot last season.
Thanks, but I ended up getting the seasons I was going to miss thanks to Vudu’s new year sale, which saw the final seasons at something like a dollar a piece! I’ll still check out your link to see what else is there.
Wow. What a website.
I dumped them about 6 months ago.
I have Prime and even though they have their share of repulsive shows, there are some good ones and they offer a LOT more movies in the different sections than Netflix ever did.
I like Prime a lot for the 2 day delivery and the Amazon Fresh.
Plus I can watch all the B horror movies i like for free :)
Colombo is on Hallmark Movies and Murder channel (HMM) weekdays at 11 am.
“I have never watched a single Netflix original. As they replace the good stuff with that trash, they become less and less worth it”
They did pick up Longmire for a couple seasons after A&E canceled it.(Season 6 will air sometime this year which will be the last one) I’ll give them credit for that.
Patriot is a strange one.
My wife still likes NetFlix but they’ve gone a different direction since the price increase.
Prime is quite a bargain. Most Friday mornings I order something cheap $10-$15 and get the free 2 day Sunday delivery. Just tweak Bezo’s a little here and there.
Dumped Dish last week. Never missed a beat.
Wife springs for Netflix, I pay for Hulu. With the smart TV and over the air channels I have all the programming I’ll ever need.
Now can someone explain how I can stream Fox News and CNN via YouTube in HD without missing a beat? I thought those channels were somehow only view-able by forking over money to some provider?
Also, the 1980s called, and they want Netflix’s search function back.
Is it even a search function? It reminds of the “door close” button on the elevator that seems to not be connected to anything.
Ah, crap. I was 6 seasons into the X-Files.
Can you watch anything you want with the fire stick?
LOL. That's an accurate analogy.
I’d dump it if hubby wasn’t addicted to it. They don’t give you enough info on a movie to make a decision if you really want to watch that movie.
He has chosen murder movies many times only to have to dump them. I am the MOTHER of a murdered child. I DON’T WANT TO WATCH THAT CRAP, IT TRIGGERS NIGHTMARES PSTD STUFF.
Stuff gets added and subtracted every month as contracts go into effect and expire. They’re adding at least as much as they’re subtracting, calling a purge is disingenuous.
That’s not really how the business works. All the stuff is owned by somebody, Netflix negotiates for blocks of content with the owners, sometimes the owners over value their property and Netflix declines. What’s making the market tougher is a lot of the owners are trying to make their OWN streaming service, so they don’t want to sell their content to anybody, thinking they’ll make more money directly.
I enjoyed both those shows, as well.
One of the things I really like about Bosch is that it doesn't rely on creating quirky characters to maintain interest, or to separate itself from other shows.
I'm really looking forward to season 3.
I have watched a few originals but most are crap..
Netflix is less and less of my eyeball time.
Only thing that has kept me onboard this long are some of the bbc shows they have. If they got Mrs browns Boys on there that would help keep me.. but every month I ask myself is it worth keeping...
