A 4 year old boy, Roman, in Croydon, south London used his mom's thumb to call for help. He can be heard saying: 'Hello I'm Roman.' The call handler asks for his address - which he provides - and then asks him to go to his mother. He says: 'She's not waking up.' The woman on the phone then says to shake 'mummy' to wake her up, but Roman replies 'it's not working.' Paramedics were able to give life-saving first aid to the woman and she was taken to hospital after regaining consciousness at the home. She has since been discharged from hospital.

It’s always good to drill into the child’s memory their address and phone number in case they get lost.
Nowadays, such drilling may be more difficult because the child may have already learned to rely on cell phones holding the important data instead of using their brains.

Parents and grandparents, make sure your little ones know how to use a phone or cell phone to call 911. Call the non-emergency line and tell the operator what you’re doing first so they’ll know to expect the child’s call.

Even at just 4 years old, the boy has a fully recognizable British accent. Sounds middle to upper class.

It’s amazing what 4 year olds can do under pressure.

It’s shocking what college kids CANNOT cope with.

What happens from age 4 to college?
Public schools?
Self-esteem builders saying “you can’t do that but it’s ok, have a trophy”?

Not just children. Performing well under stress depends on muscle memory through repetition. Many people practice dialing 911 with battery in phone so they never hit send. In an emergency they forget to hit send.

“.......make sure your little ones know how to use a phone or cell phone to call 911.”.........

My three year old great grandson is highly proficient using a smart phone. I cannot believe how he handles and manipulates the many complications of using such a device. Kids today can easily learn how to make emergency calls so teach them.

When I was a little girl I got lost in Chelsea, MA where my grandparents lived. I remember it like it was yesterday and how scared I was because I did not know their address.
