Felicia O’Dell, 59, who won viral fame in 2014 after her son posted a four-minute clip of her cooking some dough-covered “sweet treats for the kids,” died early Friday at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, her brother June O’Dell said Saturday.
In a Facebook post, O’Dell’s son Tavis Hunter wrote that “god made the decision to take my mother home,” and added that “She can finally Be happy.”

Fee’s fame has come with no small amount of criticism. Some have called her illiterate, unsanitary and unscripted... They have said her dishes — loaded with butter, sugar and grease — will send people to an early grave.
Despite the criticism, Fee stayed true to her style.
“I’m gonna keep it 100 and be me,” she said in a 2015 Los Angeles Times profile. “Ain’t nobody gonna tell me I gotta do this, I gotta do that.”

On Wednesday, O’Dell said Fee refused to change her eating habits. She liked to say she took after her father, who ate everything he ever wanted and lived to be 99.
“It turns out she took after our mother, who struggled with high blood pressure and diabetes,” O’Dell said.
Almost every day, Fee’s kitchen has been a revolving door of hungry friends and family. They all loved to watch her cook and looked forward to the hilarious things she’d say.
Her love for one ingredient in particular was always apparent.
“I’ll marry lard,” she told The Times.

I recall a joke where the doc tells the man if he gives up whisky, fried foods, smoking, etc., etc., he could live until 90.
The man replies, “yeah, but what’s the use in that?”
Guessing she died happier than many of her killjoy critics.

Everybody has choices in life. If she was happy, I’m all good with this.
There is an interesting trend in food circles these days. Restaurants have gotten over their fear of bacon and such like.
It’s probably driven somewhat by economics, but lots of the independent restaurants have embraced things like Pork Belly as an entree.
Benton’s Bacon is fairly worshiped in the Slow Food, Gravy Magazine, and Bitter Southerner culture.
I had the displeasure of running across her video once. Happy is not a word that comes to mind. She was angry, vulgar, and spiteful toward her children.

I’ve seen a dozen or so of her videos and that was just her online shtick tailored for a certain crowd. Her son and cameraman, Tavis, would often pester her with inane question until she went off. It made for good comedy, for some people. Could she have been happier in life? Maybe.

Good question as that is far more likely to have given her a heart attack than the “lard”.
The most annoying thing was the camera work. I watch "how to fix"-whatever videos as needed, and those people at least try not to give the viewers headaches from the camera positioning.

Excessive fats/lards in the diet are bad on the arteries but have to factor in how much inflammation is present that affects the inner endothelial walls which causes plaque to crater and sets off blockages leading to heart attacks and strokes.
