Finally, the Boomers’ Comeuppance Begins
American Spectator ^ | March 15, 2017 | R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.

I was wondering when it would happen. For over thirty years I have been anxiously awaiting the backlash. Alas, for years it never arrived. What backlash have I been awaiting, you ask? Why, the backlash to the most self-important, morally superior, narcissistic generation to cast a shadow across this republic in its history, the Baby Boomers. Had the generation just been designated “the Babies” and been left at that, America would have been on the right track. As we now are about to discover, while the Boomers decline into senescence, they never really did grow up — at least their headline-grabbing cohort never grew up.

It was the flippin’ hippies and I despise them to this day.

My SIL is one of them and she tried to engage my husband in a text discussion about Trump right after the inauguration. My husband shot back “ America First!” We’ve heard no more from her.

HE’s a boomer. He says the whole notion of the boomers was cooked up by the left.

“As I, a Baby Boomer by age if not by inclination, grew into the 1980s, 1990s, and beyond, I awaited the next generation’s rebellion.”

Mr. Tyrrell is mostly writing about a book just published:

“Possibly the backlash to the Boomers is at hand. Its herald is a book written by a Gen Xer, Bruce Cannon Gibney, and aptly titled A Generation of Sociopaths: How the Baby Boomers Betrayed America. You took a long time in filing your copy, Mr. Gibney, but I welcome you anyway. The only problem is that you blame my cohort of the Boomers’ generation for equal parts of the generation’s atrocities, and there I take issue with you. We had very little to do with the Boomers’ achievement. From the first campus demonstration in the 1960s to the Boomers’ recent whines about aging, the Baby Boomers were almost exclusively a left-wing phenomenon.”

I was born in 1965. Borderline between Baby Boomers and Gen X. If anybody asks I tell them Gen X.

No, he’s probably older than most of us.

“Robert Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. (born December 14, 1943) is an American conservative magazine editor, book author and columnist.”

Still, this whole ageism thing is a divide and conquer tactic.

I don’t like it when everyone says all Millennials are OWS SJW nutcases, just like it’s stupid to call all Boomers hypocritical ex-Hippies.

You are right, of course. Our parents saved and lived more simply, and took care of their elders. We reaped the bounty off the SS and Medicare we paid in because it kept them out of our care, and they largely willed it down to us. We are living soooooo long now, being treated by million dollar medicine, and expect the youngsters to foot our old age bill, too, even if it breaks them.

I’m not about to read, much less debate, the pissing and moaning of this misinformed and intellectual weakling for being part of what may well be the last generation to experience the traditional America. As Boomers, our lives were infinitely easier than, but not fundamentally different from those of the Founders, or those of a century before who fought the Civil War. Our parents, the “Greatests” did what theirs did, worked hard to give their families a better life than they had themselves. They aslo fought and died for our flag and our freedom.

Now - let’s see how the GenXers and Millenials fare on those counts. Their laziness, selfishness, and narcissism put them orders of magnitude removed from traditional America, and trust me, if they think the Boomers have created a mess - just wait til they figure out what their peers have done to them.

Thankfully, they will have 8 years to get a taste of what a Boomer can do.

He's appears to be an early Deplorable Boomer, and seems quite pleased there's finally an adult in charge of a whining, crybaby, ageing drugriddled flowerchild from hell, socialist wacko incubating, self-flaggilating, America. To wit: ...”Donald Trump, only marginally a Boomer. I think history is going to view him as America’s first real estate developer since George Washington. My guess is, and once again I am an outlier, history will judge him well.”

Steady on, Deplorable Boomers! MAGA!

the older boomers made out like bandits but we younger boomers were left holding the bag,

It's an important distinction between boomers of the upper and lower halves.

I find it ignorant to blame a whole generation of people for the bad acts of some.

We all know what he is talking about here. There is definitely a segment of the Baby Boomers that fits his description, and it is a pretty large segment although certainly not all. But the country is a mess right now on the Baby Boomers' watch after they spent decades trashing prior generations. A little payback is in order.

” Our parents, the “Greatests” did what theirs did, worked hard to give their families a better life than they had themselves.”

Many Boomers were not born to “The Greatest”.
