‘Literacy’ test for teachers may be nixed

State education officials plan to scrap a literacy exam given to prospective teachers and allow certification for some applicants who fail a performance-assessment test — moves that critics warned will weaken the pool of candidates.

The state Board of Regents will likely vote early next week on whether to ax the Academic Literacy Skills Test, one of four exams that teacher-wannabes have to pass for certification, officials said Monday.

Just another reason why I'm glad I retired and am no longer associated with this corrupt stinking mess which passes for "education" these days, which puts racial quotas above qualifications. I have personally witnessed many teachers---usually minority, many from foreign countries---who can barely string together an intelligible sentence. How are THEY supposed to model communication for students?

The NYC Bored of Ed has been on a campaign since Bloomberg to rid its ranks of veteran teachers, with combined banks of experience comprising centuries of skills honed from real classroom experience not taught in the leftist "education" courses in college. They have been targeting the veterans with fabricated unfavorable observations, deliberately setting them up with classes of the worst students so that no one mortal could succeed, bringing them up on totally fabricated charges, most of which originated from students seeking revenge on their teacher, etc. And THESE losers described in this article are what they want to replace English-as-a-first-language, highly educated and experienced veteran teachers with. AGENDA over qualifications---the libtard mantra.

The article says that "...only 48 percent of aspiring black teachers and 56 percent of prospective Hispanic educators passed [a teacher certification exam], compared to 75 percent of white candidates..." When I took the teacher certification exams, which were certainly NOT watered down then, I scored 292 out of 300 possible points. Again, AGENDA over qualifications---the libtard mantra.

The bottom line is, the libtards in charge of what passes for education in the once great state of NY are setting up the students for failure by providing them marginally qualified teachers who were only nudged over the certification finish line by virtue of affirmative action, not by their own poor qualifications. And THIS is what they would rather have than veteran educators who are exceedingly well qualified to teach.

In California, you have to pass a test. They do at least do that.

More “dumbing down” of America.
In order to teach, you’ve got be at least as smart as the pupil.

Of course...because the blood bag taxpayers, whose purpose is to be fed upon, are to serve them. How dare anyone expect to have an effective education system.

So I guess we should also be okay with surgeons who are not competent at surgery, truck drivers who can’t safely drive a truck, etc.

In NY/NYC, they've already proven and accepted that on the firefighter and police tests such that previously failing scores have been accepted into the academy and employed. This is just the natural extension of that action.

Have you noticed that there are three reporters writing this story? Seems like every story if not an opinion piece is written by two or more reporters.

Maybe we need a literacy test for reporters?

Especially the people who write the headlines.

If only ONE teacher were allowed to teach without the minimum level of literacy, it would be child abuse to send a student to that school.

It's much worse that that though. With 52% illiterate black teachers, 44% illiterate Hispanic teachers, and 25% illiterate white teachers, sending any child to public school is definitely child abuse.

More funding only makes them worse. Take away all their funding, give it back to the parents, and let the parents decide how best to educate their kids.

Anyone with either a smidgen of common sense--or any trace of a moral compass--must view this stupidification of educational standards with dismay. It reduces public education to a travesty.

As for the racial aspect? These moronic "educators," could not adopt an approach better calculated to increase the level of dependency among minority groups. They take stupidity to a new level.

For an historic footnote: The Rape Of Tolerance. [With particular attention to the closing section and the Armstrong study of 1944 school drop outs, to appreciate how cruelly children are being betrayed by arbitrary games, played by intellectually bankrupt moral misfits.]

The real objective is to hire people who are reliably left-wing, and would be willing to promote an indoctrinating agenda, regardless of how unqualified the new teachers are to actually TEACH students things like reading, writing, and math.

Have they applied the same arguments to lawyer bar exams, and doctor board certifications?

No, don't tell me, I'm not sure I really want to know.

Dunno. The teacher has to KNOW more than the pupil, but need not necessarily be smarter.
