SALT LAKE CITY — New research debunking the “ball and chain” myth of marriage for men was released Tuesday.
According to a research brief published by the Institute of Family Studies, the idea that marriage creates more unhappiness than happiness for men just isn’t true.
Nicholas H. Wolfinger, a researcher at the University of Utah, and W. Bradford Wilcox, a researcher at the University of Virginia, say that more education is needed in order to ensure that people understand marriage and the truth behind it.
“Contrary to the notion that marriage is detrimental to men, it turns out that the benefits are substantial by every conceivable measure, including greater financial well-being, higher quality of sexual life, and significantly better physical and mental health outcomes,” wrote Wilcox and Wolfinger in “Men & Marriage: Debunking the Ball and Chain Myth.”
Married men, the research argued, are often less depressed than their bachelor counterparts.
“Marriage is broadly beneficial to men and women alike, and many of these benefits appear to be causal,” Wolfinger said. “In other words, they’re a direct benefit of marriage itself, and not simply a benefit of the fact that happier, healthier, and wealthier men are more likely to get married in the first place.”
According to Pew Research, men are more likely than women to never have been married, but marriage for both men and women have been in a steady decline since 1960.
Eternal regret of women: Think they can change the man but he never changes.
Regret of men: Thinks his woman will never change BUT SHE DOES.

I listen to Christian radio all the time. The advice for men is usually to man up and do your job. Both the OT and NT tell men to be the head of the house. And for women to submit to their husband’s authority. I can’t say I ever hear the pastors telling women to stop their complaining and do what their husbands say.
And if these women reach their breaking point, no biggie, the state lets them break up the home over the objection of the husband. And the breaking point is usually something along the lines of “he isn’t meeting my needs.”
Is christian marriage distinct in being less divorce prone to secular marriage? Anyone know/have stats?
Cant control and track a guy if hes not married.
The us divorce court system cant make in excess of 50 billion a year if they cant convince men to get married.
Totally agree. Not sustainable as the system has been set up.

The lawyers were the ones who went for this. Paid politicians to pass it everywhere. Then the govt set up separate unconstitutional “family courts” and the entire court industry makes ovr 50 billion a year taking money away from families having problems.
The stats are probably heavily skewed by all those bachelor dads screwed in divorce who are committing suicide.
Modern women will not submit to the husband. Every little thing becomes a battle. You can never get a yes or an okay.
Theres no downside for women to divorce. They wont defer, they just divorce and the system and them screw the guy.
Any attorney who actually wrote a contract like marriage in any other context would be disbarred for malfeasance.
Nor do old married men. At some point, one is like an old dog on the porch. You bark when a car drives by but no longer have a need to chase it.
Men are meant to marry but what they face is the opposite of marriage and building a life with a woman.
What they face is losing everything, most importantly being able to share a home with and raise their own daughters and sons, and also their home itself, their money and possessions, and their future income.
Marriage isn’t good for men when it ends in divorce.
Men love women. Women love their children. Children love puppies. Dogs love their alpha male.
Why should anyone get married when he cannot support a family?
Yes the benefits are worth the risk. If you don’t marry the mother of your children the odds of you having a lifetime relationship with your children and grandchildren are even less than if do marry and divorce later.
Shack up relationships have an even higher break up rate than marriages.
Nearly 60% of first marriages don’t divorce. Get a pre-nup and take the plunge.
