Man Cuts His Own Cyst With a Stanley Knife (Thanks, ACA!)
Metro (U.K.) ^ | Friday 3 Mar 2017 | Jimmy Nsubuga

After watching this video you’ll never want to eat ricotta cheese again.

It shows a man cutting open a cyst on his arm using a Stanley knife.

He then squeezes out the contents, which according to his mate look like ricotta cheese.

The video was posted on reddit by user xxjar3xx.

The American explained the man on the video was his dad.

‘My dad had a sebaceous cyst and wanted to remove it himself so i told him id help, we soaked all the tools in alcohol and got to work,’ he wrote.

He added he used a field medical kit to clean and stitch the wound after they were done.

But that didn’t make people feel any better after watching the short video.

‘Grossest family bonding session ever,’ wrote one user.

Mmmm, primitive self surgery. It’s affordable and timely!

No deductibles!

I saw someone squeezing one just like that at the eating table of a Benihana, not joking.
We got up and left the table to that Obama Aunt.

And often the only available option (and nowadays, probably the safest option ) under Great Britain's National Health Service.

This is a UK article.

These types of videos are actually quite common, and popular, on YouTube. Not that I’d know ;0)

It’s political. ACA is forcing people to do their own surgery. I didn’t post the turkey one.

People are weird. I got stitches one time and as I’m leaving, they tell me to come back in two weeks or go to my PCP to get them removed. Huh? Just wash them, cut them, and yank em out of there!

I had a dog that got an ingrown dew claw (extra claw about halfway up her hind leg that I didn’t know she had) grew around in a circle and poked back in and made a little cut in her leg. I told a girl at work about it and she asked some question that assumed I took her to the vet to get it taken care of. I probably looked at her like she had two heads. If I took her to the vet, he’d get a pair of heavy duty nail clippers and cut it, clean it, probably bandage it, and give her a prescription for antibiotics (which helps HIM, not me, so I don’t sue him if it gets infected). Whereas, I took some heavy duty nail clippers and cut the thing, and washed off the site. Like I said, people are weird.

Especially if you use it when removing stitches!

From what I remember from getting these removed, you can’t just squeeze out the cheese because the cysts have an outer lining that will just fill up again if you don’t remove that too. Keep the tools and alcohol handy I guess.

There's countless "cyst popping" videos just like this on YouTube. Seems to have quite a following.

If you really want to be disgusted, go to YouTube and look up "jiggers" --chigoe fleas, invasive to Africa and thriving thanks to poverty and a lack of basic hygiene, that burrow under the skin and lay large white egg sacs that have to be dug out with knives.

It's all cool!

OK I get it.
I’m going to do my own back surgery this afternoon.
Because of ACA I can’t afford the deductable for an MRI so I’ll just take my best shot.
(this is only half BS)

An airman I deployed with tried this tactic on a noseeum bite when we were at a remote site. After a couple days of a horrible bite, he took his pocket knife to it. It was funny until they had to medivac him back to Anchorage when the blood poisoning started traveling up his arm. The docs said he had less than two hours left when he arrived at the hospital.

I must admit, watching the progression was an interesting sight—it was like a live sci-fi movie. It certainly made me more cognizant of sterile surgical tools.

Youtube shows how one can remove surgical staples with nippers and a needle nose pliers. No thanks. The special tool to remove the staples was $7 including shipping on line. The gas to drive to the docs office would have been more. Swabbed the area with alcohol and let it dry ... out they came!

If it’s a sebaceous (sp?) cyst, that stuff really stinks!

If they didn’t remove the lining that produces the sebaceous material, it will fill back up and swell up again

When I was about 15, I fully excised a 1” diameter plantar wart with a steak knife. Never came back. Home surgery is fun and adventurous.
