MELANIA TRUMP, first lady of the United States, and Ivanka Trump, the daughter of President Donald Trump, wore lavish and stylish outfits to watch the president’s first address to a joint session of congress last night.
However, the two glamorous women were widely criticised for their outfit choices, which were branded “inappropriate” after social media commenters noted the hefty price tag of the extravagant garments.
Melania Trump wore an outfit from Michael Kors’ Spring 2017 collection that retails for $10,000, or over £8,800.
The black skirt was cinched in at the waist with a wide black belt with a square buckle, while the fabric was adorned with black sequin embellishment.
The Floral-Embroidered Stretch Pebble-Crepe Dinner Jacket costs for $4,995 (£4,037.61), and the skirt costs $4,595 (£3,714.28).
Ivanka Trump wore a relatively modestly priced $2,995 (£2,420.95) Roland Mouret dress, in an orchid pink shade with an off-the-shoulder silhouette.
Mouret’s site describes Ivanka’s gown as “an easy choice for that evening affair when you think you have ‘nothing to wear’”, while Kors’ vision for Melania’s outfit reads: “Shaped, slit and exquisitely embellished — sexy this season is sly.”
The American designer’s description of his black ensemble certainly suits the image that the public felt Melania Trump was channelling last night - that of Joan Collins in dynasty.
Her character was Alexis Carrington, the beautiful and vengeful ex-wife of tycoon Blake Carrington.
One Twitter user wrote: “Melania is dressed like Joan Collins in Dynasty. #JointSession.”
Another said: “The last time I saw a sparkly suit like that, Joan Collins was wearing it on Dynasty????”
One Twitter user said of Ivanka Trump’s ensemble: “I keep thinking that someone should tell @IvankaTrump that her bra strap is showing (imo the dress is inappropriate) #JointSession”.
Another said: “@IvankaTrump Show respect for the institutions of our democracy. Your dress is fine for cocktails but not for a joint session of Congress.”

I really liked Melania Trump’s dress at the speech. She looked great.
Ivanka and Melania are LADIES and their clothing selections show CLASS and elegance....typical that Liberals prefer Mooshelle Obammys unsightly pantilines, suicidebelts, and clothing that generally looked like it came from the Homeless Ghetto chick line at Kohls!

Melania and Ivanka are independently wealthy women who actually look spectacular when dressed, unlike the Wookie who looked like crap regardless what she paid for a garment, or Hillary that always dressed in the most expensive horse blanket she could find.
