Wales Is Hosting its First Ever Alcohol-Free Beer Festival

It will take place in Pembrokeshire on St David's Day

Wales is set to host its first alcohol-free beer festival in a bid to encourage the public to adopt a healthier relationship with booze.

The free event, which will be held in Pembrokeshire on St David’s Day, promises to offer a wide range of alcohol-free and low-alcohol beers to sample.

It will also be serving up free meat and vegetable curries to the sober visitors, as well as traditional Welsh cawl.

Andrew Misell, from the charity Alcohol Concern , laid down a challenge to the drinks business in Wales to do more to meet the demand for alcohol-free ales.

He said: “There’s been a big increase in the number of alcohol-free and very low-alcohol beers available, which is great news for those of us who like a pint or two but also like to keep a clear head.

“A number of the big breweries – like San Miguel and Cobra – have seized the opportunity to get alcohol-free versions of popular brews on the shelves.

“It’s not just lagers either, with craft brews like Big Drop chocolate stout, St Peter’s Without and Innis & None pale ale recently coming on-stream.

“The only downside in all this is that many alcohol-free beers have to be ordered by post, since you can’t get them in the shops."

He added: “We hope the alcohol-free beer festival will spur more pubs, bars and shops to stock these beers, so that customers can pick them just like any other beer.

“Also, all of the beers in the festival have come from England, Scotland and further afield. It would be great to see some of the Welsh brewers getting to grips with the challenge of brewing a decent alcohol-free ale.”

The event, which will take place at Fishguard and Goodwick Rugby Club, forms part of the Communities Together project.

Project manager Marc Mordey said: “Over the years, we’ve organised walking football, ballroom dancing, poetry evenings and heavy metal music.

“Our Alcohol-Free Beer Festival is yet another opportunity for people to get together and enjoy an evening out where the booze isn’t centre stage.

“The Communities Together project has never been anti-alcohol. Most people taking part like a drink or two; and, if we’re honest, some of us overdo it sometimes.

“The Alcohol-Free Beer Festival is not about giving up your usual beer for ever more; it’s about trying some of the many new alcohol-free and low-alcohol beers that are out there, and seeing what takes your fancy."

Zach Galifianakis has a great bit where he talks about how he's trying to cut down on alcohol. So he drinks a 12 pack of O'Douls.

Then he goes out for a drive and gets pulled over by a cop. The cop asks him "Have you been drinking?" And he says "Sorta."

"I just drank a twelve pack of O'Douls alcohol free beer."

So then the cop wrote him a ticket...

...for being a wussy.

Wow, who would have thought Wales would wait this long to host their first Root Beer Festival?

Alcohol free does not necessarily translate into “healthier”. Just a bunch of empty calories.

LOL, I just read about St. David. Or St. Tavy as he was called in Shakespeare. His most famous miracle was that the place he was standing on became a hill and a dove settled on his shoulder. Some wit remarked that the last thing Wales needed was another hill. He founded monasteries where the monks had to plow the fields without draft animals, and they could consume no beer, and no meat. He established the symbol of Wales to be the leek. For those freepers who don’t make soups, a leek is like a green onion only about 1 to 2 inches in diameter and maybe ten inches long. LOL sorry... I have welch ancestors but this is hysterical.

"Alcohol free beer is like kissing your sister "

It's worse than that. No beer goggles (the ugly girls in the bar at 5 PM are just as ugly at 1AM).
