Heh, that is pretty funny!
Remembering their grandfathers accomplishments at places like Stalingrad, Moscow, Leningrad, Kursk, and ultimately Berlin should be should be a great source of pride for a nation. I suspect their children know these events well.
In our country, our young look with blank stares when Gettysburg, Belleau Wood, Tarawa, Omaha, or Midway are mentioned. It is a sad state of affairs.
Maybe the Germans can build a mini Berlin wall and charge the kids $1 a whack with a sledge hammer.
As a kid some guy was doing this with a car by the side of the road - I’m guessing me and my buddies were in fourth grade. Although it was probably more like .25 cents a whack.
I recall after we chipped in a few dollars he said “Don’t worry about counting the whacks.” Shortly after a cop showed up. The guy had slipped off as we were concentrating on what part to wreck next.
Turns out the car was stolen. Thank goodness we were young enough and obviously stupid enough that even the cop believed us, and asked for a description of the guy! (In hind-site thinking about it now, the cop was probably called because somebody had seen him there with his hand-written cardboard sign.)
