Russian airline bans 400 air stewardesses from prestigious routes after deeming [tr]

Russian airline Aeroflot has sparked outrage among its flight crew after banning as many as 400 'old, fat and ugly' stewardesses from prestigious foreign routes.

A group of angry cabin staff has written to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin to complain about their alleged treatment, supposedly part of a 'rebranding' exercise by the country's national carrier.

Calling themselves STS - the Russian abbreviation for 'old, fat, ugly' - they say they are being prevented from flying on international routes, and instead given unfashionable domestic flights.

One attendant Yevgenia Magurina complained: 'They told us all that only the young and thin will fly abroad for Aeroflot.'

There is no resemblance.

The last time I flew some I had to sit next to some bearded Mid-easterner who smelled like a GD camp fire and could have landed the role playing your typical terrorist who takes over the doomed flight. This guy looks at me and sneers, so I showed him my teeth. I swear, could hear myself growling under my breath.

No more PC flights for me. That was it.

Well okay then. Still, haven’t had a passport since the early 70’s.

These days, plenty to see here in the states. And most places I wanted to see overseas have been overrun people I don’t really want to know.

Don’t blame you a bit. If I can’t drive where I’m going I don’t go. Just can’t deal with the aggravation I feel when dealing with TSA and other issues at airports. One of the problems with being around so long is that you remember when it was pleasant to fly.

I've flown some pretty funky airlines in my day (Air Tanzania,Air Malawi among others) but I'd walk before I'd fly any Russian airline.

And that's true regardless of what the stews look like.
