If Donald Trump gave the Gettysburg Address
Original ^ | 02/19/2017 | IronJack

A … bunch of years ago … a whole bunch … the guys from England – they were great guys, these guys – they came from England and they made this country. They made it. From the ground up. And the country was conceived in liberty. As it should be. I love liberty. I was elected on liberty. And I’m going to restore it. I’m going to make liberty great again.

And it was also dedicated to the idea that all men are created equal. Men and women. I did better than any other Republican with women. Three to one. Or more. That’s the figures I’ve heard. Three to one.

Anyway, we’re here today because Democrats think that this great nation of our can’t survive. Schumer and his buddies think we can’t survive. This nation. The one that was founded so many years ago on liberty. They think liberty can’t survive. But let me tell you … It can survive. It can survive. We’re going to make it survive. Bigly.

But we’re here today to dedicate this cemetery. Dedicating this cemetery is the right thing to do, I think we all agree on that. It’s a sad place. A lotta hurt here. A lotta people dead here. And for what? For what? So the Democrats can stand in the way of America being a great nation? That’s right. They stand in the way. They’re like those orange barrels you see on the highway: in the way. Always in the way.

But we’re here to dedicate this cemetery and to recognize the men who died here. And don’t forget the women too. They died too. The women. They’re the ones – the men and the women – who made the sacrifice here. Not us. Our sacrifice comes later. But these folks, the ones who gave their lives here, they’re the ones who make this hallowed ground. Not us.

The battle isn’t over. Not by a long shot. There’s a lot of work left to be done. A lot of work. These dead people have just started. Now it’s up to us. Now it’s the time for us to start making our sacrifices. Otherwise, this is just an empty gesture. The Democrats are great at empty gestures. Their gestures … all empty. But ours aren’t. Our are great gestures. Our gestures are great. They’re more than gestures. They’re realities.

Because we can leave here today with a greater inspiration from these dead people. They can inspire us to reject the fake news and the terrible, terrible stories about me and my cabinet … these stories … where do they get these stories? They make them up, that’s where. They make them up. They’re fake news. Fake news.

But we can take away a renewed sense of commitment to stronger borders, and lower crime, and better government. And we can take away today a stronger resolve to Make America Great Again!

Love him or hate him, Donald Trump has a unique speaking style. It is not flowery. Nor is it eloquent, at least in its delivery. But at the core are the ideals that resonate with a public too long disenfranchised by the gradual erosion of its cherished values.

So look beyond the repetitions and the vague generalities to the heart of his words. I don't know if you'd hear Abraham Lincoln in them, but I think you'll hear authentic America.

Brilliant,

Yes, he talks, he has his own unique way and it certainly grabs my attention; the only other who really does that with me, is Limbuagh.

You mean the speech where Lincoln espoused government of the people, by the people, and for the people, while waging a war against the Southern people to deny them just that?

Hilarious and I love it, but until recently Trump seldom used the word “Democrats” because he’s not political in a partisan way. He’s starting to use it now because he’s learning who the real enemy is.

That is hilarious.

I can just imagine Dana Carvey (my favorite Trump impersonator) doing it!

My friend,

The South was defending slavery. That’s not something that can be tolerated by a society that has the power to do something about it. If the south would have just been willing to let the territories west of the Mississippi be free, slavery would have have slowly vanished in the south without a war....politics...but not war....alike it did in much of South America. Instead, the south felt threatened and wanted a slave state to match every free state. This was their fatal mistake because slavery was never a long term option. Ultimately, this is what led to war and their destruction. It’s sad because the South has a nobility about it that to this day can’t be matched by the northerners. That nobility was definitely tarnished due to slavery.

LOL! But you need a few more "huges" and "beautifuls". Maybe include a "big beautiful cemetery".

Now compare this to the The Gettysburg Powerpoint Presentation.

As a long-time student, critic and practitioner in the various arts of writing, it takes really good humor, good irony, good satire, good parody etc. to make me smile.

Your outstanding piece of work made me LOL!

Good piece of writing, IronJack.

Lincoln did not initially send his armies into the South to end slavery, but to end what he called a rebellion. It was only later, when things were going hard, and the North was questioning whether the bloodshed was worth saving the Union, that he picked up the public relation ploy of slavery. Since slavery was evil, it was ready made for his purposes. That had already been well prepared by the Abolitionists.

Read his first inaugural address. His cause for war was secession by the South, not the institution of slavery.

LoL. Nice to laugh on a gray Sunpay morn. Sounded exactly like him. Bigly. It is very fake news, but sounded bigly like him.

I enjoy Trumps lexicon and style, and yet as homey as it is, the MSM cannot seem to bash him for it like with GW Bush and Dan Quayle.

Great job. Bigly. Still winning.

“Ultimately, this is what led to war and their destruction.”

If the South was fighting for slavery, who was fighting against slavery?
