Imaginary News
Scott Adams' Blog ^ | 17 Feb, 2017 | Scott Adams

I think we can all agree that there has been plenty of fake news coming from both sides. Fake news is usually intentional, although in some cases it is the result of honest mistakes. But lately we are seeing an entirely new type of untrue news. I call it Imaginary News. Here’s a good example from the Huffington Post.

I watched President Trump’s press conference with the alleged “meltdown,” and all I saw was Trump talking the way he normally talks. The Huffington Post watched and apparently saw some other set of circumstances. That means we have three possibilities to consider:

1. Huffington Post saw the situation accurately while I was hallucinating.

2. My version of events is accurate and Huffington Post hallucinated.

3. Both the Huffington Post and I were hallucinating.

When I was younger, I would have automatically assumed that I was right and the Huffington Post was either intentionally lying or deluded. My more mature understanding of the world is that most people are hallucinating most of the time. We live in our own personal movies. This is a perfect example. Millions of Americans looked at the same press conference and half of us came away thinking we saw an entirely different movie than the other half. Many of us saw Trump talking the way he normally does, and saying the things he normally says. Other people saw a raving lunatic, melting down.

I think many leftists live in “inverse world”. Everything they say and do seems to be the opposite of what is right.

Isn’t “huffing” a term to describe taking drugs? hence “Huffington Post” implies that they are all wacked out druggos.

I haven’t read the article yet but I love the title.

Square root of negative news.

It kinda sorta hints that they were founded by Arianna Huffington. Too.

Gotta give credit to Scott Adams.

He said Trump would win he presidency in a landslide and he said it 19 months ago.

I wish I had put money on it, but I was full of doubt.

The upside of having those paralyzing doubts was absolute happiness the morning after.

Best surprise ever.

Best election ever.

"I was full of doubt."

I went to bed election night around 9:00 pm resigned to a President Hillary Clinton.

Next morning turned on the TV and saw the screen crawl announcing "President-elect Trump."

Every day has been like Christmas morning ever since.

Only bad thing is the recognition that this is the high water mark. It can't get any better than this and it's all downhill from here. Unless Adam Sandler wins the presidency.

“Square root of negative news.”

Most people will miss what you’re referring to. :}

“I think we can all agree that there has been plenty of fake news coming from both sides.”

I like Scott Adams’ writing, but I don’t agree with this premise.

First of all, what “two sides” are there? Left and right? Truth versus lies?

In fact, I have not really seen much “news” that isn’t entirely one-sided. Perhaps Adams counts Limbaugh and Hannity as news. But, even so, I don’t see fake news coming from the right. Just the left.

Having said that, his “imaginary news” designation seems to be spot on.

Also, the type of comments Huffington Post made are exactly what Trump predicted they would say during his press conference. They keep proving him right. They’re psychotic.

I think we can all agree that there has been plenty of fake news coming from both sides.

I can't agree with that. The overwhelming preponderance of fake news comes from the left.
