A generation with a huge sense of entitlement: Bosses complain that Millennials are spoilt [tr]

One can think of few occasions less suited to an outburst of spoilt narcissism: the launch of a hospital charity appeal, a campaign for the care of desperately sick and vulnerable people.

That’s what Sally Jones, a communications consultant hired to publicise the event, presumed, anyway. Then, after weeks of hard work, she gathered her team together for a final photograph, which was to be released as part of the fundraising activity — only to be confronted by one of the youngest members of staff, a slender 28-year-old blonde, throwing an almighty hissy fit.

The end product of participation trophy mentality. As a Generation Xer it appears we will be the forgotten generation smashed between the Boomers and Millenials.

“Fed up with their antics, Marianne took drastic action: ‘I have given up hiring Millennials now. I employ older women on a freelance basis — they are much more diligent.”

Sounds like a good idea, particularly for older people who need jobs.

I have met some hard working, heads screwed on, Millenials. They are not living with mom, often rent free, eating her food while contributing nothing. But they usually stand out because they are the exception to the rule. Image result for millennial taking a selfie

IOW, a huge failing of (R), that allowed big govt\Socialism (they STILL can’t agree to get rid of the DoEd), parents (helicopter parenting, themselves a product of failed upbringing) and the combo for allowing schools to indoctrinate on F-E-E-L-I-N-G-S, emotion and ‘self-worth’; w/o complaint or shutting the whole thing down.

Gonna be a HARD next few decades for everyone that the snowflakes will be moving towards power.

The early part of the Millennials (early 80s) - of which I’m a part - is no where near as bad as those born in the late 80s and in the 90s. For a while we were bucketed with gen x but somehow got moved to Millennials. The amount of narcissism that the facebook generation has is mind-blowing although there are plenty of exceptions of course.

I am fortunate that both of my Millenial children are educated, hard-working and gainfully employed.

But I hear all these same horror stories about their friends.

It lives on in some regional dialects. I’ve heard it all my life, along with burnt and rernt (ruined).

Both my daughter and I are security guards at different locations, she at a shipyard, me at a power plant. I work a shift of overtime every week and she works at least two shifts of overtime because the generation that provides most of the job applicants are these people, ages 20s to 30s. There are just not a whole lot of job opportunities hereabouts and SG work is not highly paid. I get $11 and daughter gets $9 but the flakes don't stay more than a few days, often no longer than their one day of training because of things like, "this just doesn't seem like it's fulfilling." These kids, all kids because they never grow up, prefer to be unemployed to working for less than they think they are worth. In my immediate situation, and the same for daughter, it's great. We make money from it. Those of us who stay and get all the OT are all older folks, a couple of us with SS.

Oh, Generation X was horrible too. They just need to live through a good recession. I remember hiring X’ers in the late 90’s, what a group of spoiled brats. Then we had a few good recessions and they became normal people.

About a quarter of the Millennials started in the job market before 2009 and the rest sat in their moms basement for several years waiting for jobs to be given to them.

Millennials are defined as people born in the last century and turned 18 in this century. Millennials, who used to be called Generation Y, where the third generation after the end of WWII which defined the beginning of the Baby Boomer Generation. The Boomers were the largest generation with X’ers being a much smaller group. But as Boomers die off, the Millennials have recently surpassed the Boomers in size. Its the Millennials who will shoulder the Boomers government debt from Medicare and Social Security.

Now here is the important stuff. Government debt in many countries like Europe, and Japan is too large for the succeeding generations to pay off. Governments use controlled inflation to lesson this burden. They need a growing younger population and/or inflation to help the younger generations pay off the increasing government debt left behind by the large elderly generation. And that is why western governments have been allowing immigrants (increase the population) and very low interest rates (try to create inflation) so that government can handle its debt.

Of course they could spend less, But governments don’t like to do that.

The article is a good read, as well as some comments. One cupcake is blaming the university for a worthless degree. Idiot!

I’m a milly. Homeschooled, have at least two jobs (and for serious money I invest in real estate), no spouse, no kids, no pets, no debt.
Almost nothing in common with my peers. I spend a lot of time in college libraries. The students are, mostly, pitifully uneducated. They don’t WANT to read, they’re bad at writing, worse at arithmetic. They know very little history and they think it’s utterly irrelevant. Economics, don’t even go there.
Whatever you think of millies...you’re probably too kind.

I find older workers much better myself, though there seems to be a distinction between women 65+ and those between 50 and 65: the former are great while the latter just go through the motions at a crawl. I believe it may be that the older ones remember when you were lucky to have a job and will do anything to excel (to keep it), while the younger ones pine for the days of 9-5 jobs with almost robotic repetition (treating jobs as though they are unionized when they aren’t).

Younger workers of both genders under 25 aren’t very good at all.

When you find a good Millennial, go through the extra burden to keep them. Even if you have to create a “senior” position to enhance their pay a bit above the others. They are your future, and you don’t want to lose that 1 in 10 employee.

I absolutely hate girls (not women by any means) aged 19 - 35. I would gladly punch them in their superiorly smug faces if I didn’t risk arrest.
