Well, it sounds like the dam is still in a precarious situation.

IOWs, the emergency spillway is doing exactly what it was designed to do.

I’ve built scores of them, on a much much smaller scale.

The overflow is contained when the main outlet cannot handle the load.

Well, as the alarmists say, because of man-caused climate change California has moved into perpetual drought. So that’s fortunate or Lake Oroville would really be in trouble now. /sarc

A lot of people who read FR (like myself) enjoy not just the articles but the commentary of other FReepers.

If interest lies in a particular subject we welcome being directed to other commentary that may have been posted on the topic on previous threads. And that is exactly what deport is doing, noting in his post that there are already 71 comments on this subject.

Thank you, deport.

Uh, no. In this case the spillway has failed and had to be shut down else the dam erodes away. See Teton Dam failure.

I better not hear anybody from California hollering about their “drought” for a while.

The emergency spillway appears to be seriously damaged.

structurally the dam is in good condition. it is the spill way which is located separate from the dam that is toast.
