Falcons dominate Packers, advance to Super Bowl LI

For the first time since 1998, the Atlanta Falcons are going to the Super Bowl. Thanks to a beautifully dominant 44-21 beat down of the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at the Georgia Dome, Matt Ryan and Co. left no question as to which team was best.

After Green Bay's 11-second, three-and-out drive to start the second half, one which included a pair of drops from tight end Jared Cook, Falcons head coach Dan Quinn was caught in a moment of rare emotion on the sidelines. He was smiling ear-to-ear before snapping back into the typical blank coaching façade we've come to expect. In that moment, he likely confirmed his brightest wishes during halftime. The Falcons had bludgeoned the Packers for 30 minutes already, and the pounding would continue through the second half.

Plus I'm a Vikings fan. So, while I remember the Falcons keeping the 15-1 Vikings out of the Super Bowl the first year the Vikes had Randy Moss, I'm also glad they beat the Packers.

I'm with you on that - favorite team is the Vikings, 2nd favorite is whoever is playing the Packers. (Last week was tough to care because it was the Cowboys.)

That’s half of what I predicted. Now New England has to win a close one, and I got them both correct.

I think we can nip all that “Rodgers is better than Brady” talk in the bud.

And the "Matt Ryan is this year's MVP" talk as well.

That’s silly. He isn’t the defense that gave up points on every drive. Rodgers is a master of the position with his arm and his feet. Brady is damn good too.

Yea, can’t wait to see the reaction of the two cheese heads at work tomorrow. After Dallas lost to the Packers...they wouldn’t shut up. I won’t gloat, but I will say...wow! the Packers got trounced.

I don’t think this loss was on Rodgers. He didn’t miss the FG early in the game, he didn’t fumble the ball away at the goal line, and he wasn’t the one playing poor defense all day.

Rodgers is good. But not better than Brady.

Well we certainly know who Rush picked in his Environmentalist Whacko football pick.

They had better start expelling quite a bit of CO2 quick.

People in St. Louis and Nashville are used to seeing Jared drop passes, just not to seeing him block.

The D didn’t show up today. We looked horrible. Very disappointed but that’s how these things go.

The Falcons are for real. I think it’s going to be a good Super Bowl. I hope the Cheatriots lose.

They gotta figure out a better plan for that defense. They are okay, and seem to play above their collective talent, but my God, we can’t hold back good offenses. Injuries are part of it, but everyone has them. Shields out for the year had an impact. He was the cornerstone of the secondary. That said, they need to really dedicate to building a defense. The top teams have that every year. Atlanta, being an example with the former Seattle D coordinator at the helm.
