Isn't social studies the one in which they lay the groundwork for future progressive thought, anyway? Not having time for that is a GOOD thing!
Gee, I said that back in the 40s-50s-60s when I was a "student", but nobody listened! < /sarc >
Rote is good for some things. Four times seven is twenty-eight, eight times six is forty-eight, nine times eight is seventy-two, endlessly repeated about 65 years ago are still useful when no pencil, paper or calculator are available!
Agreed, 100%.
Then you are still asleep.
I agree with no study guide. If I were to be given a study guide, I would only study what i needed to pass the test. Maybe as a child I would have wanted the answers given to me but, as an adult I have learned that I like to learn as much as I can, especially about something that interests me. My daughter shows the same interest and ability. I take pride in that.
Yup really, I may not have realized my mistake, but i did copy it off of the study guide brought home. Now I am really disappointed in my daughters education :’(
Yup. Home”school,” public “school,” private “school” are all evil. Man is evil.
Home “school” isn’t really school, so it’s okay.
Packing children, sorted by age, into prisons for 12 years, to be abused and stultified, by government or “private” abusers, is a crime.
I deal with the same problems. As a first grader, she is spelling things as they sound to her, i.e. “anumls” (animals), but mommy is the one to correct it, not Ms. Teacher. It is very frustrating as a parent for sure.
I agree. My junior and senior year I was in a public school, due to my mothers passing, and I couldn’t believe how these almost adults were acting. They were disrespectful, acted like idiots, and basically ran a muck throughout the school. If you were a jock, the teachers liked you. If you weren’t, you didn’t get the time of day from a teacher. Math has always been something I can’t seem to grasp well. My junior year of high school, my math teacher helped with the lacrosse team after school hours. I was not into any sports at all. When I started to have trouble with my work, I asked if I could stay after school to get some extra help. She told me she wouldn’t be able to because the team needed her. Then I offered to come in early before class. I was told she couldn’t because she was helping some of the kids on the team and the cheerleaders. I did fail math that year and had to repeat it the following year. I don’t blame that teacher for me not understanding my work, I had already made peace with the fact that math was not for me. However, I do blame her for not helping me so I could at least pass. As children it is a parents job to “train up a child in the way he should go”. Teachers were to teach discipline and back up mom and dad. It went hand in hand. Now parents don’t care enough about their kids to teach them something as simple as right from wrong, and teachers just give the kids this work and say its homework and the parents have to teach. If I’m going to be the teacher, I should get a cut of the salary.
