Vera Lynn is a most amazing person, a true patriot. In 2000 a poll picked her as the Briton who best exemplified the spirit of the 20th century. I would have given that honor to Churchill, but Vera would have been a close second!

Vera Lynn’s ‘(There’ll Be Bluebirds Over) The White Cliffs of Dover’. This song was released in 1942, when the war was far from won. Yet this song confidently predicts that the war WILL be won.

Funny, but that thought came to me as well. Europe desparately needs another Vera Lynn, and another Madeleine LeBeau.
Madeleine LeBeau was the girl who sang 'La Marseillaise' in the movie 'Casablanca.' That was possibly the most moving scene in any movie, ever.

I share this here because Freepers more than most will appreciate and understand. Three years ago my beloved wife of 34 years was dying of melanoma. We were in a hospice for a month together. One afternoon as we were talking she looked up and said confidently, “ We’ll meet again.” Just then the aide came in to bathe her and I walked to the common room. The hospice shared grounds with an assisted living complex and they were having a weekly gathering. Across the courtyard I could heat the music. It was Vera Lynn singing White Cliffs of Dover. For me it was a comforting moment, comforting that in the end we would meet again.
