I’m about two miles east of there.
When I moved from downtown
(get thee behind me Atlanta)
where I lived just south of the Georgia dome.
It took me about two years to find a place up here.
Most realtors were not much help as I needed a barn
or shop space for the blacksmith shop.
Finally found a place with an attached three car garage
that would do.
It’s funny, all my working life I owned my own business
but couldn’t get a loan but once I started SS it was
no problem.
*grin*
We had our own snowmageddon here north of Fort Worth. At the height of the blizzard, I estimate we were seeing 5 or 6 snowflakes fall per second for every square meter! Fortunately, I’d stocked up on essential goods; Coffee, Beer, and Chocolate, so I was able to struggle through and survive the catastrophe.
Yep. Handing out sandbags in calitown which has been dry as a bone all day.
OMG....LMAO!!
OK, I can make fun of the hyperbole that accompanies the Atlanta winter forecasts, BUT...
Our issue is not the snow amounts but the ice that forms before snow starts (like last night) and then the ice that forms after once we get some melt-off.
I don't care where you are from, navigating on ice is not safe unless you have chains (since studded snow tires are likely illegal everywhere now...) and the skills to avoid those without chains skidding toward you.
Having previously lived in New England for years and somewhat fearlessly navigating in the snows and after snow days we had there (and without 4WD), I cannot emphasize enough how different it is here driving with ice under snow and southern black ice.
YMMV
I love it! Great thread!
Those poor bastards in Buffalo.
LOL!
Sun did it for me. :-)
Depending on how the sun hits the backroads here in North Forsyth, the roads are dry or icy. Or dry with icy stretches. Or icy with dry patches.
We had maybe 1 1/2 inches of the white stuff. A blizzard compared to what you saw. I thought the hype was over the top by the local stations, but the weather people don't get much facetime unless there is an event.
I went out last night about 5:30 & it was like a ghost town. No traffic on 20, unheard of any day, but especially a Friday.
Oh well. At least I am set for groceries.
If you lived closer, I’d bring my tractor by to push that stuff out of your way. Have you tried a hair dryer?
We used to live in WDC. At every opportunity the weather morons would predict snowmegeddon (even if there was one cloud in Wyoming). The purpose of this was to close the government. The “workers” gladly took the day(s) off. They would be paid within a couple months for the time off so it was a taxpayer-funded extra vacay. Since so many around there “worked” for the govt, it was party time. What a bunch of bums.
You found your perfect place!
So did we. Were in Savannah on a Blue Water Sailboat waiting for me to retire, then, we’re cutting the ropes and “second star to the right and straight on until morning”.
Two winters ago here in MA we had a hell winter.
I lived on a steep hill and my GF couldn’t get up the hill. on the phone i told her to back up and floor it.
No luck
I got in the car and tried the same, i’d floor it and the RPM wouldn’t go above 2500.
I was like WTF?
Then i realized that it was the TRACTION CONTROL keeping the car from moving.
I turned off the button and floored it and up the hill i went.

6-8 inches on my porch in Milothian, Va...being a former NY state citizen I drove through it in my Tuscon, for home from work this AM! I love the Hyundai hybrid manual transmission system.
Still I’m not sure I could have handled what you are going thru, Lazzie. I have a tip for you...set up a box, with a stick and twine attached...tilt the box open and prop it with said stick...place a few walnuts underneath. You might be able to catch squirrels to satisfy the desperate need for protein you will be experiencing!
We have the opposite problem in Boise. They say 1-3" and we get 5". There's a lot more coming down right now.
It’s not the perfect place, I would have preferred
to be farther in the mountains and off a paved road
but this is in the foot hills and within my budget.
Good luck, fair winds and following seas.
And that traditional sailors toast...
To our wives and lovers, may they never meet.
