IN ONE OF the most incisive pieces of post-election pop culture so far, Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock on Saturday Night Live school an election night party full of blithely ignorant white liberals on the deep, persistent currents of American racism.
“Because of changing demographics, there might never be another Republican president in this country,” cast member Beck Bennett says in the sketch.
Chappelle glares at him, dumbfounded. “Word?” he says. “You ever been around this country before?”
The gag of course is the fact that, as a black man, Chappelle has seen the country at its ugliest, its least inclusive, so he can understand how a candidate like Donald Trump, with his hardline stance on immigration and tough-on-crime policies, might just succeed. Bennett’s character is still living in his white liberal bubble.
And yet it’s not a bubble formed entirely by delusions. Even as the Electoral College votes today to make Trump president, the United States is becoming more liberal. Just look at the data.
Over the eight years Barack Obama has served as president, public opinion in the United States has shifted decisively leftward. Think about it. When Obama came to office, he still hadn’t publicly supported same sex marriage. Last year, the White House was lit up in rainbow colors to celebrate the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage. Over the last year, bottom line-driven businesses have boycotted entire states over discriminatory policies against LGBT people. A law prohibiting transgender people from using the bathroom of their choice just cost North Carolina’s Pat McCrory the governorship. Undocumented immigrants have come out of hiding, banding together online to discuss their struggles. And in November, California, Maine, Massachusetts, and Nevada all voted to make recreational marijuana legal.

OK, where would the Country be in four years if Hillary Won?
“Liberal” wouldn’t even begin to cover it.
Current politics shows that society doesn’t move more liberal or conservative on all subjects at the same time. As of now:
* drugs - to the left - widespread legalization of recreational and medicinal marijuana
* pro-life/abortion - to the right, because the future belongs to those who show up and pro-abortion have fewer children, an issue improved by 4D sonograms and social media sharing of “it’s a baby due in 6 months”
* guns - the guns won, with widespread ownership and improving state level rights
* immigration - TBD
* political correctness / censorship - starting to see the pendulum shift from left toward the right
* homosexuality/LBGT - legal as an act, likely to stand as “marriage”, but we may see pushback to the right on sexual liberation in general and the transgenderism issue because they’ve taken it TOO far
The country didn’t just go there, they had whacko liberalism rammed down their throats - and they just puked it up.
Wow. No. Several select counties on the coasts and a few major metropolitan areas around the country are becoming more liberal. But 80% of the country is on the right. It will always be that way. Unless the liberals can change the demographics. Which they are trying to do by settling muslim rapefugees in places in fly over country.
Chapelle I don’t think believes Trump is racist or out to get black people at all.
I think he leans left but actually has a realistic view of what the world really is. He might wish that leftist ideas would work, but knows that they won’t.
We haven’t had even 65% eligible voter turnout since 1908. Most of the time it has been much less.
Now ask yourself: Would things be better now if we had higher turnouts since then?

Venezuela or North Korea would not be any different from what they would do here. Ruling over human suffering makes them feel like gods with their state-given comforts.
Oh, yeah, we are DEFINITELY headed for civil war and the breakup of the United States. Let’s go ahead and get it over with. California first.

Countries tend to become more liberal as they learn how to loot the treasury. But they become much more conservative when their looting starts to hit home.

You are so right about that. Hugo Chavez's daughter has a Swiss bank account of around 2 Billion dollars. Living large while Venezualans starve.
She went off her nut when somebody peed on her rug. It tied the whole room together.
Actually, part of the argument is true - but not in the way the nutcase that wrote this thinks.
For the last 40 years, America has been losing its moral foundation.
Liberals have never had any moral foundation.
Therefore an argument can be made that America is getting more liberal.
(A better argument can be made that a significant percentage of the population has simply become rudderless, immoral trash. Which in a way, is kind of the definition of liberal.)

The left owns social media, the nation’s newspapers,
television networks, the universities, the Internet,
television news, Hollywood, all major city governments, the unions, and many formerly non politically affiliated
organizations such as AARP. Considering what they control,
the USA should already be a model Western European
Socialist country. But low and behold the voters in
America managed to empower a relatively conservative
person to become the next president to compliment a
relatively conservative legislative branch. Hell, if
the conservatives in this country had half the firepower
as the liberals then the liberals would cease to exist.

There is one valid point in that whole bit. Changing demographics are a serious problem.
We cannot afford to keep letting thousands of people who vote mainly democrat (muslims and mexicans) into the country or it won’t be long before democrats have a permanent majority.
