I was wondering if the comparison to Lake Superior was to somehow suggest that there is fresh water on Mars.

All this mars effort seems doomed other than robotic probes. A story yesterday (I can’t give ref - you’ll have to look for yourself) cites a long time study that human eyesight does not far well in prolonged weightlessness. 20-10 vision becomes 20-100 as the body ‘forgets’ to regulate pressure around the eyeballs causing them to flatten. A trip to mars in less than full gravity would leave prospective crew either extremely nearsighted or blind.
