TECH BLACKOUT: Huge solar storm which could WIPE OUT modern technology expected by 2020

THERE is a one in eight chance that the Earth will be hit by a huge solar storm by 2020 which could potentially leave the world without Internet, phone service and many more services that modern-day humans rely on.

Researchers have warned that there is roughly a 12 per cent chance that a solar storm could smash into Earth by the end of the decade.(emphasis mine)

The powerful event would likely be as huge as the Carrington Event, which occurred on 1859.

The solar storm which hit 150 years ago was so powerful that its southern auroras could be seen as far north as Queensland in Australia.

Today, in a modern world so dependent on technology, the implications would be far more severe. ( more information available at website- restricted due to copyright restriction)

If you have a metal shed you can improve its protective quality by making sure all the parts connect to each other to make a complete metal ‘shell’ and that it is grounded to the ground.

A wire mesh cage is enough to make a serviceable faraday cage, the more metal surrounding (but not touching) things in side, the better.

The electrical charge will go on the outside shell.

Could?

Let’s us know when it does. All these Chicken Little stories are born of the snowflake generation looking for attention and wanting to be seen as the “only person who knew”.

Great for you to prepare. Commendable. But I don’t think it is required for this scenario. I’m still trying to learn how charged particles from solar flares can induce voltage in insulated wires. They can’t. However, as I’ve seen during a 2004 solar flare, if there is enough exposed wire on a circuit a significant charge can build up and over-volt the line. This is why solid state circuit breakers are so important to use. UPSs have them built in. All important/expensive equipment should be run off a UPS if for no other reason than the built in line conditioning and automated breaker.

Important Safety tip: To avoid a house fire unplug all power strips when you hear of a solar storm event. Power strips are the service point of connected devices and will be an aggregated point of discharge for any induced over-voltage up to the line’s circuit breaker’s rating. I.e., during over voltage they will pop all their internal trip wires and may catch fire. This is what I witnessed during the 2004 solar storm. The sockets with devices plugged in caught fire as there was an open circuit to discharge the induced voltage which was obviously beyond the rating or capacity of the power strip.

” at least 10% population in them.”

So the other 90% can invade and murder the other 10%??

People are not your personal investment portfolio for which 10% should be in some kind of safer investment vehicle.

I sure as Hell wouldn’t want to think 90% of the population is going to lay siege to my home.

The SCADA networks would be a point of failure if they aren’t sheilded I agree. I guess I’m thinking substations with their robust equipment could survive ok.

I survived the Carrington Event in 1859. Pretty sure I’ll be ok for the next one too...

Yes, me, too. Too many times I have needed to go off “grid” of my Nuvi due to weather, accidents or other things like fires. And, many people don’t know, but GPS doesn’t work everywhere, either.

When I take a long trip with anticipated off road adventures, I take topomaps. Of course I take my little compass, etc.

I am not a “mountain woman” for sure, but I just can’t stand not knowing where I am and what the weather is doing.

Thanks for the ping...This is the kind of grid down problem/s that I have been talking about...And then within 1 year 90% of the US population will be DEAD!

The time to get ready is NOW not after we get hit!!

I have a lot of my books on hard copy, & have a back up computer in storage, plus a bunch of other items that are CLASSIFIED OPSEC!
