MacRumors ^ | November 29, 2016 | by Joe Rossignol

Posted on 11/29/2016 11:05:27 AM PST by Swordmaker

The following Macs will be classified as either vintage or obsolete in the United States, Canada, Japan, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region:

The aforementioned Macs will no longer be eligible for hardware service or new parts from Apple or Apple Authorized Service Providers, except in Turkey and California, where Apple will continue to provide repairs and documentation for up to two years, or December 31, 2018 in this case, as required by local statutes.

Vintage products are those that have not been manufactured by Apple for between five and seven years. Obsolete products are those that were discontinued by Apple more than seven years ago. Apple and Authorized Service Providers make no distinction between obsolete and vintage products outside of Turkey and California.

"MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011)"

That's me!! I'm vintage, so my laptop might as well be too.

Can you upgrade the OS? I am finding that mine is increasingly useless for anything other than basic web surfing because the OS can’t be updated.

We have 2010 Macs capable of being upgraded to macOS Sierra in my office. I couldn't tell you about the 2009 Macs as we upgraded anything that old some time ago. However, at the moment we are running OS X El Capitan due to the main software we use to run the patient data base has not been certified yet to be reliable on macOS Sierra by its publisher as well as the 3D radiography software has yet to be upgraded. So we wait.

Those 2010 Macs are scheduled to be replaced next year, though. They've done their duty for six years.

Hell no you can’t upgrade!

You scumbags who hang on to your computers don’t deserve any support. /s

I am so sick of Apple. I have all their products, and I’m eagerly awaiting a company to replace it all. I do NOT want to support global socialists either...

Then join the great promise that is Linux!
The source code is there for you to adapt & run on any hardware you like.
...there’s just that persistent issue of spending all your time getting “it” (OS, applications, whatever) to _run_ on that hardware, as contrasted with that global capitalist “just works” solution...

Apple told the government to go pound sound when they said they will not give any information wihout a warrant. I’ve been a fan ever since.

those were nice, powerful machines. I am still upset that IBM did not continue development of the G5 chip for the speed and power consumption that Apple needed.

Liar! Don't take it personally, Apple produced many hundreds of products and you can't possibly have them all. Or maybe you do... Tim Cook, is that you?

I have a couple of those, after upgrading them for my wife and daughter to newer machines. They wanted the new features in the latest OS. I'm still using them for various purposes. 3rd-party parts have gotten real cheap if ever you need to replace a part.

The US Tech industry has had it’s head up the DNC’s ass so bad for the last 20 yrs. We need fresh blood, new companies. Also, a business needs protection from the likes of the DNC that punish private industry via lawsuits and shakedowns.
