2016 looks like it will be a record year for gun sales. The number of NICS background checks for firearm purchases has risen annually for 18 straight months, hitting 22.2 million at the end of October versus 23.1 million in 2015.
Analysts expect Smith & Wesson (NASDAQ:SWHC) and Sturm Ruger (NYSE:RGR) -- the only two publicly traded gunmakers in the U.S. -- to respectively grow their revenues by 26% and 13% this year. Let's take a look back at the five top selling handguns of the year, as listed by Gunbroker.com, and what they tell us about today's American firearm market.
1. Smith & Wesson M&P Shield The Smith & Wesson M&P Shield, which was introduced in 2005, is a lightweight, concealable pistol which is encased in a polymer frame. The Shield comes in 9mm, 40 S&W, and .45 full auto calibers, and is widely used by law enforcement and military personnel. The Shield is often praised for its slim profile, ergonomics, ease of use, and overall accuracy. As a striker-fired pistol, it lacks a protruding hammer in the back, making it easier to conceal and carry.

I live out close to CZ Custom so I would like to start with a tweaked CZ 75 SP01 Shadow 9 mm in duo tone. Then for grins I would like a Jerry Miculek Signature Performance Center Model 929 from S & W in 22 WMR just to be an odd ball.
I would then like to get some moon clips and a 9mm wheel gun such as a Performance Center Model 986 so that I stay with a caliber that I already own on other items.
My fourth is a bit of a debate. I like some lever action deer rifles I have seen in the last year or so, but I also like some of these 9mm carbines that have fold down stocks. Truth be told, I have no elk rifle so that is really where I should be going in a long gun but I just can’t get excited about a hunt where you have to win a draw.
My rifle that can do anything is a CZ 550 American Magnum in 375 H&H Magnum. I reload so I can load down for woods deer or up for long range elk loads.
I have almost too many hobbies and projects so I DO NOT want to start reloading, LOL.
I looked up a little on that cartridge and I think one of my early sports cars was only just a little bigger. I can’t help but think I would short cycle the bolt about the first one hundred times I used it.
My best buddy from childhood is into a big cartridge handgun fixation. I think he is trying to get every monster handgun made. He says the range master at the range he uses wants premium pay when he comes over to the range as he says it makes his chest hurt in his tower. That rifle is truly something I have to show him.
Anything Kimber is good.
I have a Systema 1927, and I believe it has as much quality as a Colt-made pre-WW2 commercial colt, which is saying something. Even in it’s refinished condition, it is a slick shooter.
I am a sports car person. My current fast car is a 2013 Audi S6. It is AWD and the tuners with dynos say the factory is lieing with claims of 420 HP. The tuners claim the starting point off the showroom is really 480 hp and they can do electronic mapping to get 560 hp.
Car and Driver clocked 0-60 at 3.7 seconds. I can attest it is brutal.
I am currently looking at McLaren 570S, Ferrari 488 GTB and Lamborghini Huracan 610.

I own a M&P Shield in .40. I was not aware of a Shield in .45 but I found it had come out within the past couple of months. I bet the bark is pretty hard. I like my .40. I can kill most anything with it at close range (I think).

A supposed pro-gun article that gives the anti’s more fuel to use with the uninformed.

I’m a big Fan of Browning Hi-Powers, have all the calibers up to 40 and even have one in 357 Sig. Last count was 22 all pre 1983 except for the 40 and the 357 Sig which was built by NOVAK using a 40 cal.

Are you thinking of the Model 19? Model 27 is built off the N-frame same as the Model 29 44 Mag. The 19 was my duty weapons back in the early 70’s when I was with the SO and as much as I like them, long term use of full house loads did tend to leave them rattling. Still have my old 19 but it had to go back to S&W for a little rehab. The L-Frame is a much sturdier pistol for extended use.
You can get a notable improvement in the trigger by removing the magazine disconnect, the pin holding it can be seen in the trigger. The two I shoot the most have it removed, the Novak conversion has it in place but it also has a Novak trigger job. All it does is disable the pistol once the magazine is released, a feature I’m not too crazy about safety wise.

Hotter 9mm +P+ was the recipe back when the 40SW variant came out. I was still active duty, had the cash to do it and had one built, by Cylinder & Slide .... Great concept / idea but not really necessary as NDE inspection of both my BHP’s after thousands of rounds of +P+ loads and years of showed no damage .... many pro-con debates to be googled .....

I’m curious what all they had to do. Was material added to the breech face and was the extractor and ejector modified or replaced? If you can find one Browning did make a Hi-Power that in my opinion was much better suited for the higher performance 9mm rounds. The MK II runs a 20 lb spring as apposed to the 17. I have 2, one is stock and the other has had a little tinkering done to it. Slipped in a Barstow barrel, removed the mag safety link and a little smoothing of the ramp and internals. Since the front sight is part of the slide I did not to mess with the rear sight which is smaller than most but I prefer that. I run everything through that pistol with no sign of stress or hiccups. Only ammo it doesn’t like is the 100 grain frangible but even Sig’s and Glocks don’t care for that.
Of all, I only have the Ruger LCP - would like it to have the upgraded sights and crisper trigger pull of the LCP II, but it’s fine as a self defense, easily concealed, weapon.
