Woman accused of murder, kidnapping baby was living in US illegally

WICHITA, Kan. — A Dallas woman accused of killing a Wichita mother and taking her baby was in the country illegally when she was released from a Kansas jail this summer before immigration officials had a chance to request she be held, law enforcement authorities said Wednesday.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not receive the July 25 list of arrests from the Sedgwick County sheriff’s office showing Yesenia Sesmas’ name on it until the following day, and by that time she had already been released from local custody, said ICE spokesman Carl Rusnok. The agency would have asked that she be detained if Sesmas, a Mexican national, had still been in jail, he said.

A Dallas woman accused of killing a Wichita mother and taking her baby

Why was she released? Isn't murder and kidnapping a crime in Kansas?

“We do have policies at the Sheriff’s Department that we do cooperate with all other agencies,” says Lin Dehning with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department. “We do not contact them (undocumented illegals) unless they are suspected of being involved in a crime or we have probable cause to believe they have committed a crime, or if there is a warrant for their arrest. We don’t just go around looking for people we believe to be illegal, no.”

Wichita Police offered a similar stance.

“As far as us solely going out and enforcing immigration laws, we do not do that,” Deputy Police Chief John Speer told KSN. “The only time that we, by policy, will actually factor in immigration status of a person in Wichita, is if we have some knowledge they have re-entered the U.S. after being deported. ”

So, we have the Nassau County (Florida) Sheriffs office called to assist in a bust by Customs on Monday morning. One of the people being detained in a van got free and ran across the road to escape. A Deputy went to chase him but was struck by a car and killed on the spot. They arrested the perp a day later in Jacksonville and it turns out he was deported twice!

A six year old daughter will be separated for life from her Daddy. To all the bleeding hearts who whine about separating families if members are deported, all it takes is an airplane, train or bus ticket so they can be rejoined. Explain your utter hypocrisy to that little girl you bunch of human trash!

That was before she committed the second crime of killing and kidnapping the baby. The first was being here illegally.

Institute e-verify to all law enforcement agencies and if they refuse, cut their funding immediately.

"...Sesmas when she was in custody in Kansas in the summer for allegedly threatening another Wichita woman with a knife and trying to hold that woman’s two daughters for ransom."

Sesmas never showed up for her August court hearing in that case and was a fugitive until her arrest Saturday during a pre-dawn raid at her Dallas home following last week’s killing of another Wichita woman, Laura Abarca-Nogueda, and the abduction of Abarca-Nogueda’s 6-day-old daughter."

WOW. So illegal aliens can go to Kansas, threaten people with weapons and be released in 24 hours??? At the bail hearing didn't the judge think the perp MIGHT be a flight risk since she were in the country illegally???

I assume there was going to be a trial of some kind on the Sedgwick County charges. Wouldn't it have been cheaper and cleaner just to call ICE and get this woman deported in the first place? I don't understand this.

Amen! How many more people have to die at the hands of illegals? Build the wall, and they won’t come. E-Verify to make sure illegals are not hired. A $100K fine/per illegal/per day to be assessed against employers found to have hired illegals, would go a long way in keeping employers honest.

Cut off the financial incentives to be in the country illegally, and many will self-deprt. The wall would then serve as a non-too-subtle reminder to not even try entering the US illegally.

It sounds to me that she was released after committing some other crime before she went on to commit the murder and kidnapping. It’s hard to tell from the information in the article.

So she is in jail now?
How was she able to post a bond for murder & kidnapping???
Why was there a bond at all??

I can’t understand a bondsman posting on an illegal alien. Seems the likelihood on the perp skipping and leave them having to pay out large sums is too great.

The supposed benefits of Hispanic immigration are illusory.
By contrast, the economic, political, and social, costs are very real.
America is harmed by Hispanic immigration, not helped, and for any government
that puts America’s interest first there is only one way to deal with Hispanic immigration: reverse it.

How does an illegal alien get bail for a violent crime? Just being an illegal should be enough of a flight risk to deny bail.

This is a huge part of the problem. Local cops just don’t bother to be proactive. It’s the old they didn’t tell me this person was wanted!! Come on now! You mean to tell me that persons name isn’t already in a computer data base?

Some things just don’t pass the giggle test

Then is it agreed that every person arrested must pass e-verify. Once e-verify gets a hit, the locals are told to hold and through e-verify, it automatically tags ICE with a pick up notice. Then just to make sure the locals are not screwing up, each year there is an automatic electronic audit to balance the arrests with e-verify inquiries.

If the local law enforcement agencies wish to continue with ANY federal funding they must comply with the plan.

Geez, this is just too easy to implement and manage.

We had a recent tragedy in NE Florida. Nassau County Detective Oliver was present as the immigration authorities were checking on the immigration status of a pick up load of “roofers”. During the encounter, one of the detainees sprinted away and the deputy was in foot pursuit when he was hit by a vehicle. He was DOA. The illegal was apprehended 45 miles away in Jacksonville. He had been deported TWICE already to San Salvadore. Under questioning he said he had reentered the US five days ago by wading the Rio Grande.

BUILD THE DAMN WALL. Electrify it. Back it up with land mines and M-60s. We did not deserve to lose this wonderful deputy. Lastly, two of the other six were also illegal status “visitors”. Seems to me whomever was employing these guys without having checked on their lawful status should be shot too.
