I would find a reason not to hire someone who looks like that.
I just don’t understand people who complain but take no action over something so serious. If you feel the person is a reckless driver why on earth would you let your kid on the bus? Get together with the other parents and carpool, call the cops, show up en masse at board meetings etc. Call your local newspaper and publicize it. So many choices other than this. I dropped the kids to school on my way to work and my husband picked them up every day for years because I would not let them ride the bus, ever.
I don’t think I could survive such a loss :-(
I would dread waking in the morning because it would be the first thing I would think of....
Children often act meek around teachers and act surprised when I tell them "your parents bought all this stuff for your benefit".
The educational system is as arrogant as the IRS.
We really need to get the Fed out of education and then wrest control from the state and sell the physical plants to private concerns.
It works for hospitals, doesn't it.
Confusing, but I guess her other two children were “just” injured. Prayers for her and her family.
And it is 20/20 hindsight, but it is so easy to think “it can’t happen to us”, even when the warning signs are there, that she still let her children ride the bus. But I may probably have been the same way - “normalcy bias” or something they call it.
Thank you. I couldn't figure out how to say it. Brilliant!
Unfathomable to me, but then I home school.
I remember too many of the room-temperature IQ skanks getting education degrees when I was in school. I wouldn’t trust my dog to them, let alone my kids.
And your typical school administration is even worse.
And this illiterate “journalist” is a prime example of what they turn out.
These poor babies. Innocents, killed on the altar of political correctness.
I mean, you can tell by looking at the driver’s photo than he wouldn’t be a good bus driver, he was far too young and his hair looks like stoner hair...
School bus drivers should have lots of driving experience under their belt. Everyone knows young men are the most unsafe drivers. And no druggies. It’s easy to drug test for that...
I can only guess why this guy was hired.
I did 3 tours behind the fan and the big wheel of the big yellow bus. I was working in a motorcycle shop as a mechanic. Winter time there was no bike work. So I drove the bus.
I was a good driver.....but not in the bus driver for your children good. More like NASCAR good. I was in my twenties and should not have been driving people’s kids around.
The bus companies need to be much more vigilant. BTW I never had an accident driving the busses
The company that hired this guy was caught looking for workers outside a county courthouse.
I think the company’s expectations are freaking minimal.
He’s black. They needed him to make their numbers work out so the EEOC would not give them problems, which is more important to them than children’s lives.
Seat belts and mandatory daily drug testing are going to have to be forced on school bus drivers. His mug shot showed glassy eyes. Just random drug testing is not enough, most know how to beat it. Then there is the issue with cell phone use, some are so addicted to them it’s like they are addicted to street drugs.
This SOB had already had 1 fender bender a few weeks before.
After that school ramble in Memphis where 6 were shot 1 killed, the mother of the one killed is wanting instant justice, well I have new for her it’s at least a 2 yr or more process. Sounds like no one is telling any victims’ family about Crime Victims Right. Debbie Groseclose, myself and many other victims fought hard for the state Constitutional Rights. That are not being enforced.
I’m out of the advocacy business my health won’t tolerate it, I feel bad for them.
I walked 6 blocks to school in grade school in all weather, but that was a small town, HS you took the city bus and it was always overcrowded as the bus came from Gary IN to Hessville, into Hammond, IN. Different time different culture. School buses are NOT safe. Drivers are not to be trusted.
I also would have made a poor bus driver!
God bless you my FRiend!
An honest man who can honestly judge himself!
What’s sad is that the local educational beauracracies are totally unresponsive to parents like this who they perceive to be powerless.
We are very fortunate in that that our have two parents who have the time to be involved in our kids schools and both of us are also very persistent when our kids are involved. The times when we feel that the welfare of one of kids was at stake (such as being picked on by a teacher, or not getting a schedule with the classes we needed), we made enough of a nuisance of ourselves that the administration eventually relented.
I can only imagine these parents heartache knowing that they complained about the bus driver repeatedly and the administraton did nothing because they weren’t perceived as being important.
School boards are there to do ONE thing: ensure better pay and bennies for teachers. Kids are just grist for the mill.
I interviewed with Durham and they offered me a job. My wife (also a FReeper) advised me not to take the job because it would mean driving in bad neighborhoods (the hoods). I ended up getting hired as a school bus driver for another company that has very good, polite, courteous, clean, well spoken, well dressed students. Can you tell I like my kids? I did have to get a CDL with a school bus endorsement. They paid me for the training to get my CDL. I had to get a medical and drug test and a background check. When I drive I pray silently for our safety. The kids almost all tell me thank you when they get off the bus. The grade school kids are the biggest challenge. They are like a bunch of yapping puppies that haven’t learned what the word SIT means yet. They are getting better though.
Liberal policies probably demanded that he be hired and that complaints against him go unheeded to keep from taking “racist’ actions against him....
LOL! Good for you! God bless you and your kids. Every child in the country deserves that same kind of care.
I hope she sues the driver, bus company and school district into the dirt. Clean them out!!!!!
Last nights news showed his arrest mug shot, glassy eyed. He’d already had a minor school bus fender bender a few weeks before, speeding no one was hurt that time. He should have been fired then.
This is the second bad school bus accident in TN, the other was Memphis, where only minor injuries and older teens were on the bus.
Time for MANDATORY SEAT BELTS being retrofitted on all school buses and new ones. I’d go as far as daily drug testing with the caliber of people they hire. Cell Phones are another big issue as most seem glued to their ears.
Has any one informed the victims families of the State Crime Victims Constitutional RIGHTS? Yes, TN is one of the few states with Constitutional Rights for Crime Victims and their families.
