Conway definitely. Ingraham too valuable a voice on radio and TV countering MSM propaganda. Can’t afford to lose that.
A press secretary would still be needed even if they didn’t coddle a bevy of snapping reporters. Also President Trump should be very hospitable to any company who is fair and communicates the truth. You know, like sources from other countries... lol.
Even if he does decide to update the nation directly, through YouTube or twitter (or its fairer replacement), he will need a media secretary to coordinate when and how things will be broken, keep him aware of public reactions (the enemedia will start crap on their own and she would be the person advising him of it so that he can reinform Americans of the truth when the media starts its lying, etc).
Imagine the media people get their talking points (you know, like “gravitas” or whatever the point is that they all repeat all day long) and run with it. They might pick a day when the President is very busy, traveling, whatever. The press secretary would be the one to get the truth squared away before the lie gets around the world. Trump can tweet on the bathroom breaks at a summit meeting even.
“The media today have the talking points of XYZ. Don’t worry, Americans, nothing could be farther from the truth. Will let you know details Thursday. Don’t fall for their disinfo!”
I think the closest parallel would be Tony Snow, only a little more combative i her case.
“Could you imagine his roll out of his #PressSecretary twitter account.”
They’d be fighting about whether to suspend it or to let it continue on multiple fronts - between the factions within the company, and their friendlies on Twitter.
If he does, bring out the buttery popcorn and watch the sparks fly. It might be enough to cause invocations of California’s 5250 and 5270 psychiatric holds, versus just the short-term 5150.
