Patrol says a state trooper arrested a driver after clocking his speed at more than 200 mph.
The patrol says Trooper Ryan Smith pulled over 19-year-old Hector Fraire Saturday on the Kilpatrick Turnpike in Oklahoma City. Authorities say Fraire was driving a Ford Mustang and the troopers radar clocked the car at 176 mph and then 208 mph.
Authorities say the driver attempted to elude the state trooper, turning off his headlights and brake lights at one point.
Fraire was eventually pulled over at a red light. The highway patrol says the driver stopped his car and dropped his keys out of the window.
The highway patrol says the driver was arrested on complaints of reckless driving and felony eluding.

Cops always exaggerate the speed. I don’t believe them on half of the tickets I gotten.

Good thing he didnt stick his hand out the window... Factoring in Bernoullis, hed be airborne. At 208 with a stock body he'd be airborne anyway. There's a good reason for those Formula 1 aerodynamic body shapes - it's called keeping you from flying.

Yeah, that part about ‘going dark’ sounded suspicious.
Wonder if the driver has now taken his last joyride... and if there’s any HINT of drugs in the car... it’ll be confiscated.

Reminds me of a scene in Blazing Saddles when allthe outlaws got slowed down by a toll booth.

No way he was even doing 176 in a mustang, better get the radar gun checked

I have an issue of “Car And Driver” which lists the specs on all Corvette models.
For a 64 with 300 HP 327, top speed was 122 mph. There were some models which could do 160 but not that one.

It would take a lot of cash to build a Mustang capable of 208 mph. Unless the 19-year old driver is a rap start or has a rich daddy I doubt his car was traveling that fast.

Yes. The ‘required additional horsepower’ vs. ‘additional velocity achieved’ curve is very steep at the high end - even with excellent aerodynamics.

So, when did the reckless driving part happen. The article doesn’t say.

My 68 Vette 427 hi-ratio rear end would become airborne at around 145.......plenty of tach left but no steering!!!!...I only did that once!!!! and i still have the ticket to prove it.....(ahhh..the good ol’ days!)

I remember the Lamborghini Countach could not even reach that speed when it was first introduced, 200 mph was a major milestone. And that car is like a needle in the wind compared to the Mustang’s brick.

208 and not in a Porsche? Hoax? Maybe it was all downhill.

I can’t even comprehend what kind of horsepower you’d need to push that brick through air at that speed.

Problem with the movie version of the supercharged V8 is that you can't simply turn the roots blower on or off via some AC clutch arrangement, as the internal rotors prevent air from passing through when they are not turning.
But, it sure looked cool!
