Trump promises to block funding to sanctuary cities

As part of his 100-day action plan, President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to block all federal funding to sanctuary cities.

What is a sanctuary city? Here's what it means to 22-year-old Thais Marques, an undocumented immigrant who lives in the sanctuary city of Newark, N.J.: "It means that I can be safe in my own city," she said. "If I get pulled over or if something happens, I know that my family won't be detained and I won't be detained."

More than 350 counties, cities and states are so-called sanctuaries. There isn't a legal definition for a "sanctuary city." But, generally, these places have policies, police department orders or nonbinding resolutions that limit government officials from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement.

"It isn't the duty or the obligation of a local police officer or social worker to inquire about a person's immigration status or to enforce those immigration laws," said Dan Kesselbrenner, executive director of the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild.

Illinois Comptroller-elect Susana Mendoza said Trump's plan to block federal funding to sanctuary cities "is morally corrupt, but more importantly, it's fiscally unsound."

Without much detail from Trump, it's not clear how much money Chicago could lose, Mendoza said. But, she added, it'd likely be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Think of it, we can build an even bigger and better wall with all the money we're going to save here. Brilliant.

Fine.

Let them stay sanctuary cities and we’ll just build a wall around each city that defies Federal law.

And we’ll make Susana Mendoza pay for it.

Trump needs to stop funding for all sanctuary cities, counties and states:

Drain the democrat swamps of illegals.

Just send in the feds and round up the illegals.

Start in a city that has the most illegals, and by the time the feds are finished the rest in all the other cities will start to self deport.

Cut off EBT card payments to any address in the sanctuary city and you will get their attention very quickly.

So Trump has decided to follow the Rule of Law, and punish those cities who have chosen to ignore the Rule of Law.

Excellent!

He should just pull all federal resources out of the sanctuary cities. Let the states pay for that BS if they want to.

The progeny of illegals are being used by Demoncrats to create a massive voting base. Oregon is a prime example and so is Washington.

It's not your own city. You are here illegally.

This is seriously shaping up as Trump’s moment to do like Reagan did with the air traffic controllers union.

Justice ends funding to ‘sanctuary cities’ in huge House GOP victory

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3447630/posts

Finally acting on a promise made to House leaders, the Justice Department on Thursday shut off funding to so-called “sanctuary cities” that ignore federal laws and protect illegal immigrants wanted for crimes.

“Today, the DOJ notified local and state law enforcement agencies across America that they will no longer be eligible for federal law enforcement grants unless they certify under oath that their local or state laws do not interfere ‘in any way’ with requests for immigration information from federal authorities,” according to Texas Rep. John Culberson who demanded action earlier this year.

Justice sent Culberson a letter detailing the new rules that cut off several Justice grants, many to law enforcement, if cities like San Francisco, Washington, D.C. and over 300 others block access to criminal illegals sought by federal authorities.

It is a huge victory for Culberson, chairman of the Commerce, Justice, and Science Subcommittee on Appropriations, and others who sought to shut down the once secret system in cities. The practice of taking federal money then refusing to give up criminal illegals became public after the 2015 San Francisco killing of Kate Steinle allegedly by an illegal immigrant who had been deported for crimes several times.

“Sanctuary cities are a hub for illegal aliens and criminal activity, and we’ve seen the tragic results of these policies time and time again. It has been more than a year since Kate Steinle was murdered at the hands of a criminal illegal alien who intentionally sought out shelter in San Francisco due to the city’s sanctuary policies. This violence and suffering is intolerable and completely preventable,” said Culberson.

Cut off funding retroactively to the beginning of the year and tell them they can reapply in 4 years.

What is really sad is that no one is asking where the hell the US Government gets the constitutional authority for any funding to cities?

IMHO almost all Federal funding to cities/states needs to be eliminated. Most drive some socialist agenda anyway.

Somehow, someway, mayors and governors think they are going to weasel around this very, very big stick.

Of course they cannot let their citizens know they will fold like a cheap lawn chair, they have to wait until the money is actually cut off. Then plead.

Then fold.

That’s right. He needs to be tough as nails from the get go. Then the other side will know to get in line or else.

When Reagan fired the controllers it sent a signal to all: “Mess with me and you will pay.”

It will avoid a lot of problems down the road. The illegal aliens will begin to leave and I believe they have started already.
