Yes, our’s too. So d*amn hard to search youtube to find what you seek. The text is primitive, worse than a cell phone...actually I exaggerate; not quite that difficult. But the key board/lack thereof, is a pain when searching.

But, rather than complain too loudly, still enjoy the benefits seen. :)

Batteries have a long shelf-life now. We’ve got a box full that we rotate out/replenish as we need them.

Last year I bought a battery-powered radio for the little facility that I work in - over recent years we had experienced both an earthquake (very unusual for our region) which clogged up all the cell phone ‘lines’, and a blackout that lasted a few hours, during which we had no computers/telephones. We had cellphones, but those lines get tied up in a widespread emergency, too, and for a while we didn’t know what was happening. I figured we needed another resource.

So, you can still get little radios that run both on electricity and batteries.

I’m a great radio fan - whenever I find an older unit at the thrift store that works well, I buy it and stock batteries for it ;-)

Husband has his Ham license; everyone interested in prepping should at least go for their tech license - it’s not difficult, and you don’t need to invest a lot of money in equipment for immediate emergency purposes - just have a charged ‘handy-talky’ around, spare rechargeable batteries and a good supply of AA batteries, if your HT can use those. It doesn’t take a lot of power to just listen, and you can listen without a license, you just can’t transmit. Could be useful in an emergency.

Oh, wait...this isn’t the prepper thread, is it? ;-)

-JT

A little town off 289 (Preston Road) north of Frisco. Real close to Jihad ridden Oklahoma. WAY too close for comfort. Read today they’ve been overwhelmed in that state.

couple other streaming channels : PBS is pretty good. Our antenna won’t pick it up here, but the PBS channel posts their shows soon after they air on regular TV. I like this old house and some other PBS shows.

There is a roku news caster channel that lets you watch local news channels.

Some quirky stuff - blind cat rescue channel lets you watch cats play at a rescue place. There is another channel that lets you watch the feed from the ISS spacestation.

Whoever asked about the amazon version - I tried the fire stick and it wasn’t that great. Slower and not as good interface as the roku. We have a roku 3 and bought another roku 2 to watch movie rentals on our projector. The 3 has a headphone jack on the remote - which is nice when you want to watch quietly because of this the roku 2 remote is “line of site” meaning you have to have it pointed at the box - the roku 3 doesn’t have to be pointed at the box for the remote to work.

I will post more if I think of something else.

Found an app for a tv guide. Called TV GUIDE PLUS. Easy to use and customizable. Great addition for using XTV.

Also, an easier way to find things on YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, etc. is to use a tablet, computer, or smart phone to search. Then go to it on Roku.
