The global gap in earnings between men and women will not be closed for another 170 years if current trends continue, according to a new report from the World Economic Forum.

The Switzerland-based forum’s annual Global Gender Gap Report, released Tuesday, lists economics and health as the most challenging disparities between men and women worldwide. […]

The U.S. placed 45th in the index, down from 28th in 2015. The report cites a decline in the number of women participating in the labor force over the past year as a partial reason for the drop. However, it also notes that the U.S. has attained parity among genders in education. …

Women in the People’s Republic of China enjoy equal rights with men in all spheres of life, political, economic, cultural and social, and family life. The state protects the rights and interests of women, applies the principle of equal pay for equal work for men and women alike and trains and selects cadres from among women.

How long until women close the getting-killed-on-the-job-in-workplace-accidents gap with men?

That’s OK, because both men and women will be eating dog food if current trends continue, and a lot sooner than 170 years.

I’ve worked along side women for over 40 years. They all made the same as I did when we were doing the same jobs, with the same seniority.

Wow, 170 years. Not 169 years. Not 171 years. 170.

Small wonder that this mostly collection of math illiterates choose to go into SJW, Journalism, and other trades not requiring any modicum of actual intelligence.

Go suck a rock, AP.

You know, that rock that you are all dumber than.

Oct 26 . .. how convenient to make women appear as “victims” again, by the UN no less.

It’s LAUGHABLE to argue any kind of gender “equity” for Red China

Ask any professional Chinese woman how they’re treated there

Maybe women won’t be doing work as good as men for 170 years, which means they SHOULDN’T be earning as much.

That's a major reason why there's a disparity. They are looking at the whole workforce. Men and women in the exact same job earn equal pay. If anything, the women will tend to earn more, so they won't have any excuse to sue for pay discrimination.

But if you look at the jobs that involve dangerous or uncomfortable working conditions, that involve being on the road a lot, that involve lots of mandatory overtime -- they are mostly filled by men. These jobs naturally pay more than safe comfortable jobs. Otherwise who would be interested in them?

BS on the article.

I was told in the early 80’s that bias promotion of women and minorities would be my biggest career obstacle.

By the time I retired earlier this year, it was proven all too true. From the CEO on down, anytime a woman competed for a position, she prevailed.

A specific case in point, oft repeated, a young lady who had never worked in the discipline, had no experience on the key tools, Had never managed before, was given the position over others who had all of that experience in spades.

No, the world’s largest defense contractor.

Women will never take off less time than men. Or get injured less than men. Good grief. It is all about where you initially start, if you get a jump in position by switching companies than if you stayed there, the gaps in your career due to time periods away from the workplace, and their general acceptance of raises and not fighting for more because it is confrontationally unpleasant.

And they have had it better because for a very long time men who wanted long breaks of time away, got canned. Men didnt get work breaks. Men got let go.

Why theynkeep parading thismlie around is just to continually agigtate men and women against each other. This is 100% agitprop falsity. If, IF a woman earns less it is almost always explainable due to rational reasons and not because of sexism.

This is arrant nonsense and presumes that women are not origins of their own destiny. The data clearly indicates that the proposition that men and women receive different pay is grossly under-specified. Here are two studies that show that when you compare men and women doing the same job at the same level in the same company the differences are marginal.
http://info.haygroupupdate.com/global-en-GenderPayWhite-Paper_technicalreport-X1Y1.html
and
https://www.glassdoor.com/research/studies/gender-pay-gap/

With apples to apples comparisons the gap is between 2 and 5%. I suspect that this gap will be closed through regulation and market forces in considerably less than 170 years.
