Prairie Ridge High School teacher put on leave after pro-Clinton video shown in class

CRYSTAL LAKE – A Prairie Ridge High School teacher has been put on paid administrative leave after showing a politically charged video and endorsing Hillary Clinton in his class.

William Walker has been working with the district since 1993 and has been at Prairie Ridge since it opened in 1997. He was outside the school Monday with tape over his mouth and a sign that read “Enjoy the Silence” in protest of his recent removal from the classroom. He said that the administration’s actions resulted from his showing of a 23-minute YouTube video, “Sam Harris Dismantles Donald Trump,” in class.

“I feel it’s important as a teacher to get students to look at all the information,” he said. “And I don’t think we have enough information on Donald Trump. I was trying to say, ‘Look at it from this perspective.’ ”

He said he also told his students “this is why I am voting for Hillary Clinton” and to show it to their parents if they wanted to. The political talk didn’t go beyond curriculum because he teaches world studies and government, which was the topic at hand, he said. (snip)

Walker said that he himself recently wrote a book and runs a blog, williamrevelation.com, which discusses his recent “coming back to God.” He said he had previously been warned by administrators to not bring religious talk to the classroom if it went beyond the curriculum.

Prairie Ridge officials were not immediately available for comment Monday afternoon. Walker makes more than $112,000 a year, plus $19,000 in benefits, according to district documents.

“It’s worth the risk if I am going to do something positive in the world,” he said. “You have to be willing to sacrifice and give everything to bring a positive message.”

Get over it dude. Discussing politics on the job for almost all establishments is against the policies. You got busted for violating policy.

Unlike a Trump supporter, I don’t see any bloody face or bruises on him from taking a stand for the felon.

When I was an the equivalent of middle school in the early 70s, sure partisan subjects were covered in social studies class, but the teacher actually stayed out of taking sides. Instead, students chose a candidate in an upcoming race and then looked for whatever backed their candidate and bashed the other candidate that they could, and everybody got to present it before the class. No fisticuffs resulted, though students got to point out logical errors.

I gotta wonder about this guy’s revelation. It sure sounds like it can’t even survive some kind of normal debate.

Chicago area?

He has no problems with all the Hillary crimes and does not care that Bill Clinton raped numerous woman. He only concerns himself with Trumps locker room TALK.

He mentions coming back to God while supporting the candidate that wants to kill 9 month babies and force Christians to embrace and glorify homosexual marriage.

Why is this guy teaching?

Some people don’t know a diamond in the rough when they see it. Sure, Donald can’t keep on yacking like that (and Melania saw to it that he wouldn’t) but this was not the unforgivable sin and I bet worse things were said in the halls of that high school. His actual career got far more compliments than catcalls from the ladies who collaborated with him.

While Hillary/Bill — ooh. And no, it isn’t just Hillary.

I used to live there in the mid-late ‘90’s. It was pretty conservative then.

Well, you touch on, what kinds of people do we have teaching our kids? What kinds of people become teachers? Are teachers recruited because they are liberal? Do liberals tend to go into teaching, and want to influence kids to be liberal???

Off topic, but reminds me of the joke, of how Kwanzaa is celebrated by white female school teachers. The idea is that such teachers are bending over backwards to prove they are liberal, by observing a made up “holiday” which is supposed to be observed by black people.

My son, (just turned 18 in time to vote), wears his red MAGA hat to school every day, irritating his teachers.

"...Off topic, but reminds me of the joke, of how Kwanzaa is celebrated by white female school teachers...."

Not to brag, but I am the inventor of that demotivational poster. You know, the one with the earnest-looking chick lighting candles. I based it on the comment of another FReeper.

The exact text is "Kwanzaa" (next line) "A unique and sacred holiday celebrated solely by white, female elementary school teachers".

I made it back when I worked in Silicon Valley and had lots of time on my hands.
