Chicago Hopenchange: Major hospitals bail on ObamaCare for 2017
Hot Air ^ | October 24, 2016 | Ed Morrissey

Old and busted: ObamaCare gives Americans health care! New hotness: ObamaCare gives Americans health care …. where they can’t get to it. Last week, in President Obama’s home town of Chicago, his supporters got a rude surprise. If they buy their health insurance on the ObamaCare exchange, they’d better look in some other city for hospitalization, because they won’t get covered in the Windy City:

Some of Chicago’s largest hospitals said they will not be part of any Cook County Affordable Care Act marketplace plans in 2017.

University of Chicago Medical Center and Rush University Medical Center both said they don’t plan to be in network for any Obamacare marketplace plans next year.

The change means patients with doctors at those hospitals will either need to find a plan off the marketplace, and lose Obamacare subsides, or find a new doctor.

This should be a big story because this is Michelle Obama’s old hospital but it won’t.

If Hillary gets in, these hospitals will not be able to opt out of Obamacare. Some law will be passed (with GOPe support) that will require an Obamacare option for any hospital that takes federal money in any way.

And that “takes federal money” will be written to be as broad as possible.

On a local talk show a few weeks back, US Rep. Mike Burgess, TX-R gave a simple reason why Obamacare is not accepted by many providers: reimbursement rates. Obamacare policies have reimbursement rates lower than Medicaid.

Too many ER gunshot wounds.

Having worked in big city ERs for most of my career I know something about them.Yes,they see their share....more than their share,in fact...of gunshot wounds, stab wounds, etc. But what the typical American probably doesn't understand is that they've long been 24 hour walk-in clinics.Sore throat at 2AM? Call 911 to take you to the ER.Of course you either have medicaid or you have no intention to pay.The ambulance *must* take you and the ER *must* treat you.And once you've been treated the hospital gives you a cab voucher to get home.

Working in these ERs showed me the best *and* the worst of American society.I saw brave people doing their best to overcome horrible injuries and illnesses and I saw the filthiest, most worthless creatures on earth paying the price for their depravities.

Not just decreased reimbursement rates but carriers often give patients a grace period to pay premiums, go ahead and pay the claim and electronically transfer funds to checking account. Then up to two years later they do audit of claims and take the money back out of the account because the patient never paid their premium.

It’s an accounting nightmare! They are worse than the IRS.

I was thinking exactly that.

Her job there was to shuttle poor and often minority patients to other hospitals, and keep the patients with really good paying insurance coverage.

Everything Obama has done in eight years has failed thus he literally is appropriately called ZERO. I also think a Supreme Court justice should be able to be impeached. Roberts is a moron and the two “wise” Obama appointed “ladies” are no better than traffic court judges.
