Shopping carts can cost anywhere from $90 to as much as $250 per cart. One here, one there. Pretty soon it adds up to real money.

What would Sheriff Andy Taylor do if Barney arrested Gomer for having an illegal milk crate?

I found a truck mirror on the side of the road in front of my house. I took it and kept it.
If someone had posted a “lost mirror” ad, I would have phoned him.
Not quite the same thing as an abandoned vehicle which has a serial number, is registered by the county and has a title from the state.

Look at upstate NY; know why there are no dairy farms anymore? Farm after farm abandoned.
There’s no money in milk production. If you are a dairy and have to keep replacing missing crates...it would be a problem after a while.

Completely specious and ridiculous. Out of respect to a fellow Freper, I won’t use other words.
A car parked on the side of the road is entirely different from a freaking milk crate. People don’t accidentally abandon their car on the side of the road. Some people do just toss milk crates out on the road (it’s called littering).
Come back when you have a cogent argument.

I never said he should keep it. Just confiscate it and thank him for recovering the property. Makes no sense to tie up the jail and court system for a case that will get thrown out for lack of evidence.

They are looking for people who are doing even the smallest crime, because, what weve learned is, those who will go out an steal a milk crate, for example, are the same people who are probably breaking into cars, breaking into your house, Horstman said. Conversely, those who steal millions by creating a false foundation for the poor, giving 5 percent to the poor but keeping the bulk for themselves, lying to the FBI, making enemies disappear in supposed "suicides", started out with small crimes but were never held accountable.
If the cops didn't nab this guy, just think, he could've gone on to run for president someday.

Bull crap.
Jail the filthy milk crate litterer too.
Same level of stupidity.
Separate punishments would be an even higher level of stupidity. If it’s a requirement to jail people who pick up then leaving the litter by the side of the road is entrapment. It’s proper that the milk crate litterer be punished at least as much as someone who picks up after him.

Sounds like you are not fully supporting the police, because they are simply enforcing the law you get arrested for stealing/possessing stolen property.Only applies if your last name is not Clinton.

Troller is currently at the Polk County Jail. Hale said his grandson has a long rap sheet, but doesnt agree with this arrest. Wait until he does something wrong. Thats the way I feel about it. Its silly to me, and besides if it was [illegal], it shouldnt be enough to carry you to jail, Hale said. How much longer should his rap sheet get before consequences kick in?
