Neither booze nor drugs played a role in the boating accident that killed Miami Marlins pitching great Jose Fernandez, authorities said Sunday.

The 24-year-old star hurler and two male buddies died when their 30-foot boat crashed off Miami Beach around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Florida official said.

[Sad....yet what was he doing out in the ocean at 3am?]

Living his life and having a good time as 20-something’s often do. Nothing wrong with that.

What a horrible tragedy.

Nope. And obstructions are hard to see and unforgiving.

There was no alcohol found at the scene, but that doesn’t mean they hadn’t been drinking. He was not the driver of the boat.

They missed the inlet and hit the rocks.

Equip was working too well.

Blasting into the inlet in the dark is not a smart move

ABC World News Tonight said he has a baby on the way.

It just compounds the tragedy.

“Jose Fernandez -the NL Rookie of the Year in 2013 - came to the United States by boat as a 15-year-old Cuban refugee in 2008. Along the way, he rescued his mother, who had fallen overboard. However, his beloved grandmother, who Fernandez calls a “baseball freak,” was left behind.

“She’s the love of my life... my everything,” Fernandez said.

The day before winning the Rookie of the Year Award, a shocked Fernandez was reunited with his grandmother in Florida with help from Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria.

Fishing is great at night sometimes. I grew up in West Plm Beach. I started fishing off of the Lake Worth Pier every Saturday morning, and then at night when I was a teenager. No matter how many times I fished there, the Cubans always out fished me.
